High-Risk Pregnancy

Hi. I'm so frustrated! (Intro)

Hello. I guess I should join this board as I am considered high risk and know you ladies have been so helpful to others.
We have been TTC for 5 years and during that time we learned a lot about my body. I have an abnormally small uterus and prior to conception my cervix measured right under 3cm. This was checked out by a (RI) Reproductive Immunologist (in Chicago while I live in NJ) and she suggested intense monitoring by my local doctors. I am almost 11 weeks and just had my first OB appointment. He said no one checks the cervix this early and he doesn't even check, the MFM does. When I made an appointment with the MFM they said that they will not check until week 15. At 7 weeks my cervix was almost 2.8 cm and last week my RI measured it at 2.3 cm. I don't know how to last 5 weeks when it went down so much in just 3... and at 14 weeks we have a vacation planned and I am worried about going on 2 flights if it is very short.
I am currently researching both a new OB and a more proactive MFMs. I am just so frustrated because we knew all of this prior to conception and everything is a wait and see. It took over 5 years to get pregnant- I am not going to take chances now.
On top of that, I am also high risk due to autoimmune disorders (blood clotting and inflammation) and I am on several drugs. I am on lovenox 2x a day, prednisone but since I just started IVIg infusions we are hoping to wean off of that. I am also still on prometrium 4x a day and 2ccs of PIO daily. And my estrogen was low so I'm on estrodial 2x a day and 2 vivelle patches every other day. And metformin to control my glucose levels (prednisone raises it). Everything else are just vitamins and supplements.

Thanks for allowing me to join and I hope to be able to give and receive support.

  • Hey there- I also dealt with cervical issues. From pretty much 14 weeks On my cervix measured at 3 or less. I was put on modified rest and told to avoid standing longer than 2 hours a day. No trips. My Mfm is very conservative, but I'm thankful for that. I was also put on progesterone which seemed to help keep me around 3 until about 27/28 weeks when it shortened to 2.5.. Then 2.. Then at 30 weeks it was at 1 and I was put on hospital bed rest. I had weekly ultrasounds with the Mfm from 14 weeks on.. But I also had twins. Best of luck to you! Sounds. Like you're on the right track looking for proactive doctors.

  • Also want to add that my OB was never concerned about my cervix..and only checked it through abdominal ultrasound.. Which isn't as accurate. Request a transvaginal ultrasound when they look at your cervix. Way more accurate!
