Placenta previa u/s

Going in an hour to see if my placenta scooted away from my cervix! If it did, I don't have to have scheduled c-section... The others who had placenta previa- have you found out yet if it moved!? Curious what the stats are here.

Re: Placenta previa u/s

  • Good luck today!!!! I still have complete and go back in Sept 8th for my next u/s, I will be 33 weeks. My Dr. Is still very hopeful that it will move before they have to do a c-section.

  • Just found out yesterday at 33 weeks that the placenta had moved enough. Word of advice...if they just do a regular ultrasound and the measurement is close then insist on the transvaginal. When they looked at mine from above it was right on the board line. Then when they did the transvaginal it was completely out of the way. Fingers crossed for you!

  • I just had mine on Monday. It has moved and is now considered low-lying. The "tip" is still over the cervix, my doc said if it moves 4-5 more cm then we can skip the c/s. I got back for a f/u u/s on the 22nd. More waiting! gah!

    Good luck with yours!

  • I had my 33 week ultrasound, and my complete previa had moved 0.5cm away, making it low-lying. I have now been cleared to try for a vaginal birth!

This was  huge relief, since the nurse after the ultrasound came in and told me "Nope, didn't move, C-section by the 12th." I was devastated. An OB in the practice called me the next day to tell me she was wrong, that I was good to go. Apparently she never even saw the ultrasound data. :/

  • vrj0522 - I just realized our firstborns have almost the same bday.  My DS's bday is on May 23.  (Should've been May 22, which is my DH's bday, but for a 28 hour labor!) Our second kids are off by a couple weeks though.

glggirl - i would've been so upset to get the wrong info the first time!  But glad it worked out with good news later!

  • Yay! Glad yours moved.  Mine also finally got out of the way. I'm at 2.7cm. Funny that such a small amount of space makes such a big impact!

@glggirl, your placenta is .5cm away from the cervix and they cleared you for a vaginal birth? You must have a progressive OB, both in the US and Ukraine they had told me mine needed to clear 2cm

  • I forgot to ask if this means no more pelvic rest.  It would make sense that it does right?  Did anyone else ask this question upon finding that theirs had cleared?

In my case, it meant no more pelvic rest, but I would call just to ask.
  • Was re checked at 32 weeks and mine moved as well!!!!

I guess they are pretty progressive- they said 0.5cm is far enough away to wait for a vaginal birth- that there might be more blood than normal, but nothing concerning. Plus they are confident it will move at least another 1cm by my due date. I really trust the doctors in this practice, through two surgeries they've never steered me wrong. But if they are confident it's doable and something they can handle, I'm on board.

  • @glggirl, glad you have a dr that you trust and are able to have the vaginal birth you want! And it does seem that once these placentas start moving they keep going! I have a follow up u/s tomorrow and am curious if mine makes any further progress
