August 2013 Moms

Hand, foot and mouth...

...is running rampant through my circle of mom pal's kids. :(. It was even on our local news that it was spreading fast in the city.

I feel bad but I'm avoiding everyone in my mommy group for a bit. Hope we are spared!

Anywho, that and :-h HI! Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry it's not a more interesting topic. :(

  • It been going around in my little guys daycare too, he wasn't lucky enough to avoid it. He had an awful case and I can honestly say if you can avoid it for sure try
  • @Stormytucker‌ and @HauntedRadio‌ NO FUN!

DS1's "besties" got it last year and I heard from their mom it was awful. Having sick kiddos is the worst. Especially a virus that you just need to wait out. :(

Hope they are healthy now and that as the summer winds down the "outbreaks" stop. I heard it likes moist warm temperatures, not sure if that's true or not.

  • Thanks BlueJewelM, yes he's much better now and the scarring from the blisters are finally gone! My pediatrician said summer is the worst time for this virus so just another month or so And we should be in the clear!
  • We've managed to avoid it thus far, but we have a friend whose DD had it. Now her fingernails are falling off! Her pedi told her it was all apart of the virus.

Reading all this, especially the fingernails falling off part, makes me want to put LO inside a bubble.  :-SS

  • It's all over the place here as well.  It was going around DD's daycare, and she did catch it, but she had an incredibly mild case that consisted of a brief, low-grade fever and a few spots/blisters on her hands and feet (none in/around her mouth).  I felt very lucky that she didn't have a worse case, as I know it can be pretty terrible.

It's been going around here, too. DS got it twice! Luckily it wasn't bad and only ended up being a few bumps on his arm and torso.

  • The babies recover really quickly.  DS had it at the end of July and both my husband and I caught it.  DON'T catch it as an adult.  It knocked us out for 3 days and my skin is still peeling off anywhere that I had blisters.  Not to mention I lost a toenail.
