Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK Question

This is my first month TTC #2 and I decided to try OPK's for the first time. On the morning of CD13 it was negative. On the morning of CD14 it was positive. On the morning of CD15 it was negative again already. Does the surge generally only last that long? I'm thinking if I would have tested in the evening of CD13 it may have been positive bc I had a couple of O signs. On every app that I plug in positive OPK on CD14, its saying my "O" date is CD15...but if I got a negative OPK that morning...my actual "O" date was CD14, correct? I know it doesn't matter much...was just trying to figure these things out. Thanks ladies! (Maybe I'm also hoping this puts me a day closer to testing, ha)

Re: OPK Question

  • Some woman have a short surge and only catch it one day and some have trouble catching it at all. A positive OPKs means you are gearing up to O in 12-48 hours so if CD 14 was a positive you likely O'd that day or even day 15 or 16. The only way to confirm if and when you did o is to temp. A sustained rise occurs the day following O.

  • I would definitely suggest temping and using FF, the other apps are garbage.Sometime I ovulate on the day of a positive OPK, sometimes I ovulate 2 days later. If my body is feeling like a complete asshole, I will have a positive OPK, but not actually ovulate until a week later. So yeah, start temping.

  • Thank you for the replies! When I got my negative OPK the morning of CD15...we stopped "trying"...next month I'll know to keep trying for a day or two after, just in-case.

  • Sex before O is more likely to result in pregnancy than sex on O day. But OPKs just measure the hormone that triggers the release of an egg. They don't measure O. So you can see why it makes sense the O is often the day after. Or could be the day of... And you can see how it doesn't guarantee that you did O at all. I use them in both am & PM. This cycle, I got a + opk on a Wednesday night. It was still + Thursday am & PM. & then negative on Friday morning. Temps & FF confirmed Friday as my O day.
