Tell me about Sesame Place...

Hi guys,

Long time, no Bump!  For some reason at work I can only read posts and can't post myself so I've been a bit quiet recently.  Was wondering if anyone has taken their little(s) to Sesame Place and if you thought they enjoyed it/had tips.  I'm strongly considering skipping birthday party this year -- no family in town, friends mostly don't have kids, we're looking at spending a ton of money on preschool -- and taking a little weekend trip instead!  He knows who Elmo is and I think he might really like it.

  • I took off quite a few Mondays this summer and that was our spot!

    1) sesame place is awesome. Bailey hates the water rides (that water is freaking cold, and she's not the one to wait to get used to it, like me!) and we still have a great time.

    2) get there when the park opens or a little before. the line to park gets a little crazy.

    3) if you know someone w a season pass, borrow it. They're just paper cards w a name on it. No bday, no picture, they aren't even laminated.

    4) when you have a season pass, you get 30% off at a restaurant. My sister comes and brings our 4 year old niece. We get two chicken finger kids meals for like $14 and it's enough food for the 4 of us.

    5) if you don't have refillable cup, get one when you buy a meal. It's only $2.99 to add to your meal. They'll offer to let you pay $10.99 for free refills. Don't do it because-

    6) the soda machines in the restaurant are self serve. Just go refill your cup there. If you go to a stand outside, you'll have to pay the $1 (which isn't much anyway, but still)

    7) there's a story time session in one of the stores (it'll be listed under shows on the map, but not the app) that people seem to skip that's pretty awesome. Someone comes and reads a book but they bring a character with them (last time it was Abby)

    8) most of the non water rides involve spinning of some sort so be prepared

    9) the popcorn bucket was an awesome purchase since they'll refill it for like $2 (again 30% off w the season pass)

    10) make sure your LO is wearing shoes for the dry rides. We waited for a while for the carousel and Bailey didn't have her shoes on (I was holding her in line) and they told us she couldn't sit on a horse and had to sit on a bench. Luckily my sister was with us and ran and grabbed them for me because B would've freaked out.

    11) if there's a like for the oscars rockets, skip it. That ride sucks.

    I think that's all I've got :)

  • More!

    12) You can bring snacks/drinks into the park! They let you bring in a small cooler, but I normally just throw a few bottles of water/cherry Gatorade and a bag of pretzels in the bottom of the stroller

    13) I also suggest bringing the stroller, to keep stuff in. And Bailey napped in it last time (first time like everrrr).

    14) I wasn't crazy about the parade. People start saving spots for it like hours in advance and it gets packed over there. We've seen it once, now we use it as a time to hop on the rides because the lines are so much shorter. Lol.

    15) all of the shows are great.

    16) 1-2-3 smile with me (back behind the teacups) is pretty awesome. You get to meet two characters and Elmo is always one of them. They let you take pics w your cell phone, but you have to stay behind a certain point. They take pics too, but you don't have to and aren't obligated to buy them.

  • Thanks! Great tips! I think L would really like story time and he's a bit fan of anything that spins -- as long as it isn't too loud. This seems doable!
