What do you need two of?

Just found out the other day at my 16 week U/S with the MFM that we are Team Pink! (Both U/S tech and MFM said they are 100% sure).

I searched back 20 pages, but didn't see anything on this. What are absolutes that I will need 2 of? I want to start registering and looking for deals. What are must haves and what items do I not really need. Our moms have offered to buy each baby a crib, so I have that taken care of, but do I need 2 swings, saucers etc?

Any links with list or tips from you ladies will be great. I am a FTM, so I am clueless. TIA!

Re: What do you need two of?

  • IMHO I like two of the following: boppy pillows, bouncy chairs or RNPS, swings, car seats (of course)! Later I would buy two bumpos and two high chairs. I like two swings and two bouncy chairs because it is somewhere to set a baby on each level of a house. Two cribs will also be necessary later on but not right away depending on your sleeping plans. We got by with one play mat, one pack n play, one bath tub and one twin size nursing pillow. We also had two singleton front packs sp DH and I could both baby wear at the same time.

I just asked my cousin this same question last night! Here is what she said (she has twin boys abt 2 yo now):

Hey! the best thing i had was 2 rock and play sleepers.. they were our basinets ... we only had 1 swing.. they are big and expensive.. one was enough for us bc my kids didnt really care about it.. but some kids LOVE them. we had 2 bouncers.. my kids didnt really care about those either... harrison (nephew) kinda liked his bouncher bc it helped him poop lol (vibration) and harrison and presley (niece) were both swing LOVERS.. def need 2 bumbos 2 highchairs Tons of blankets and burp rags. 2 potty chairs.. glad we had 2 cribs... 2 carseats, double stroller- get the more narrow one if you get a side by side to fit into the door shopping!! I have to fold my down.. very glad i have a side by side though. umm, prob just 1 jumparroo and 1 exasaucer they can take turns..1 diaper genie and tons of refills and 2 boppys are a must for bottle feeding at the same time!

Edit: pls don't mind the bad grammar.. i just copied word for word what she messaged me & she's too busy to worry about complete sentences lol

  • @sing4mysavior‌ Did you use a bassinets or did you use the cribs right away. Our room is going to be right next to the nursery, but always heard people keeping newborns in the room with them at first.

Thanks everyone! Keep the lists coming. Very helpful!

  • cls78 . We are team blue and just starting our registry.  It is overwhelming!

I have heard mixed reviews on the Bumbo seats but I think I might register them and then I can always return them.  I am going with regular highchairs even though they take up room.  My nephew was in one that buckles in the seat and he rocked backward and  the whole chair tumbled over and he broke his arm so those scare me.  I was going to only register for one rock and play but now I am thinking about two. I plan on also using the twin pack and play.

  • We had two: cribs, car seats, high chairs (fisher price space saver), boppies (2 of these was a must!), and bouncer chairs (one on each floor of the house).

We got by with 1: swing (one that plugs into the wall is a must, no batteries!), pack n'play, play mat, jumperoo, baby bathtub.

We did borrow a second swing from a neighbor for 6-8 weeks when the kids were about 7 months old b/c suddenly that was a way to get them to both nap at the same time.

For the things that you do buy two of, you may want to consider getting different brands/features b/c it will give you variety so you can change things up if they're getting bored. Also, one baby might love a particular piece of equipment while the other baby hates it.

  • Two:
    Car seats
Cribs / PNPs (used only for travel)
    High Chairs (travel booster seats)
    Bouncers
    Ergos

We have one of everything else. I barely used my boppy from my singleton bc we tandem bf using the MBF pillow. I did have to buy more bottles and pump parts (I went back to work at 3.5mo pp and pumped for them at work until they turned a year).

I'm a baby gear minimalist. Zero swings - they're huge. One playmat. One exersaucer. Could have done without the bumbo. No jumper or anything.

Strollers I used the joovy twin Roo stroller frame and now we use the bob duallie as our everyday. I'm debating a cheapie umbrella for ease of transport once we switch to convertible seats.

Furniture wise we have one dresser that doubles as a changing table. One glider - I MUCH prefer the fully upholstered ones over the ones w exposed wood.

We have a shit ton of toys. I've bought maybe 20% of them. So many toys.

  • Oh also two RNPs. Definitely. They slept in those for a good 6-7mo in their room.

We also never used a baby tub. Just laid them in a regular tub on a towel in an inch or water or so.

We have two: cribs, car seats, highchairs, boppys (which honestly if you are going to be exclusively breast feeding you don't really need, I never ever use them. My boys hated being in them for tummy time or lounging), rock n play type chairs (that were perfect for getting them to fall asleep in the beginning. Now they are fun for playtime), bumbos (we didn't start using these until about 5 months). We have one: swing, jumperoo, playmat, carrier (I never really use it), twin pack and play (my boys slept in the built in bassinets next to our bed for the first 4 months. Now it is for play time or when I need them to be contained for a few minutes), baby tub, and one double stroller. We also just have one changing table/dresser and one regular sized rocker and ottoman. That's what has worked for us! I would say start out with one of the things you don't have to have two of (swings, playmats, etc) until you figure out what your babies like. Some like the swings and some don't so you don't wanna end up with two swings if only one baby likes it.

  • For us the must haves at first where two bouncy chairs and rock and plays. We waited on other things like 2 swings until we knew we really wanted them. I think a lot depends on what your babies like, and how you want your house set up for day to day. For example It made things much easier for us to have safe spots to park each baby upstairs, in the kitchen and in the family room. I didn't want to drag things around all day so I did wind up getting two swings, two excersaucers etc.
