Anyone else still not sleeping?

How's the sleep going with your LOs? I guess I was expecting that by nearly 13 months, LO would be sleeping through the night. Everyone is giving me a hard time (including now DH) about him sleeping in our bed, being nursed to sleep.. and is suggesting letting LO CIO.
I was completely against CIO, and I must say I'm not comfortable with it now either. But now that our sleep situation isn't working for us, I need to know my options. There is no such thing as consoling him without picking him up. He has no ability to "self soothe" (if such ability exists... I'm not sure). He never took a soother, isn't attached to any toys or blankets.. it's always been me. He has been extremely coddled, and now that I am back at work part-time, even my nanny who only has him to care for, is having a hard time. I guess a long post to see - are there any babies who are still not putting themselves to sleep / still waking a lot at night?

Re: Anyone else still not sleeping?

  • Nope, no sleep here either. We get a good night here and there, but it's mostly been awful since 6 months.

  • DD1 was still a frequent waker at 13 months. Actually, 11-13 months was worse than when she was a newborn.

We ended up doing the No Cry Sleep Solution when she was about 15 months. DH took the lead on putting her to bed. There was a definite improvement, but I can't say which actually helped more- NCSS or DH doing bedtime.

Sleep was near perfection until about 18 months, when she started cutting molars. At that point we decided to quit worrying about it and to give go with the flow. Life got considerably less stressful at that point.

  • I'm so glad to hear I'm not alone. I have asked DH to start being involved with the bedtime routine, so hopefully that will be a start to our "no cry sleep solution". He's just really busy and isn't always available at bedtime, so I'm worried about consistency.
    Thanks!
  • I still nurse DS to sleep. He does not wake during the night so I don't know if he wakes and self-soothes or just sleeps through. Right now me putting him to sleep works, so for us, until it does not work we will go with the flow.

  • My LO still wakes up also to eat twice a night even if I give her couple extra ounces she still gets up to eat.. and I have a hard time to put her to sleep it seriously takes about an our for her to fall asleep. . Even with the lights out. She doesn't have anything that soothes either she just falls asleep when can't no more..
  • Liliana is just about 13 months too. She still wakes for her nightly bottle 2x's each night.
At this point our newborn is sleeping better than her.

    We have our "Irish Twins"

  • LO is up twice a night on most nights, usually at 1 and 4.  Sometimes he only gets up at 4, some nights he's up 4 times.  He still needs a bottle of milk to fall asleep and rocking and often a bottle of water or milk to get back to sleep in the middle of the night.  He also never took a pasi or got attached to any toys.

DH and I take turns putting him to sleep and he's usually fine with either of us, but sometimes wants me instead of DH.  We replaced the 1am milk with water, and now he still wakes at 1 but barely takes a couple sips if any at all and falls right back to sleep.  He's hungry at 4 though, so we give him milk then or else he'll be up every hour until he gets it.  We're also working on replacing picking him up and rocking with just stroking his back. Lately he's also been waking up in the middle of the night, crying out a few times, and falling asleep on his own before we get to his room, so I'm hopeful that he's slowly learning to self soothe.

We attempted CIO once after our pedi suggested it (and DH pressured me to try) and after like 3 minutes alone in his room, DS had worked himself up to the point of vomiting.  He's done that a few other times when really upset, so we won't be bothering to try any version of CIO again.  I don't like the idea of CIO anyway.

  • Dd still wakes up 1 to 4 times a night mostly 2 though. Sometimes she whimpers for a a minute before putting herself back to sleep. I watch on the monitor if she stands I know she's not going back to sleep on her own. If she wakes before 2 I usually give her the paci and rock to sleep after 2 she wants to nurse.
