Is anyone else having a couple's shower? My mom and MIL keep asking if that's what we want to do b/c they want to plan early given it will be around grad season.
I was thinking like a Jimmy Buffet Cheeseburger in Paradise type theme (b/c who doesn't love Jimmy Buffet), no typical shower games or anything. Our reasoning is more of our mutual friends are guys and DH is into the baby stuff.
Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas?
Re: Couples Shower?
My sisters planned a co-ed surprise shower for my and DH. The surprise part was for him though---he was floored and totally loved the idea. After months on end of being thought of last...he had a few special things just for him.
He opened all of the gifts--(he tossed a few my way) and some people bought dad specific items...books, gag gifts, etc. It was fun.....the best part was the fact that the guys that were there were good sports about it all and joined in the fun...
I attended one coed baby shower. It was luau themed. Every group is different, but at that shower everyone had a good time until the games/gift opening. (In other words, they enjoyed the eating, drinking, and mingling). The "games" were simple - basically it was men vs women on calling out correct answers to baby-related questions. At first the guys were uncomfortable being separated from their SO, then the women got annoyed at some jokingly "guyish" answers, and then the guys kind of lost interest. And frankly, I get bored during gift openings, so I can't fault them for that.
Upon leaving, DH made me promise that I wouldn't make him attend another shower. It hasn't come up now that we're actually pregnant (this was about a year ago). I can see us potentially doing one, because now many of his guy friends have had babies. If we were, I think a BBQ / Jimmy Buffet type affairs sounds fun.
I don't mean to sound down on coed showers - Definitely do it if it's right for you, DH and your social group. Just sharing my experience. I've heard other poeple say they really are fun.
We are doing a couples shower. A lot of friends had couples showers and so of course they want to come to ours now.
I also had the traditional shower with DD and would have preferred to have a couple's shower. I'm not into tradition much!
We're doing two couples showers - one for his side and one for my side. I wanted to do one for our wedding, but he wasn't into that idea. Now DH wants to be involved because it's his baby too! I think he felt like the wedding was more my thing than his. Ha ha ha...
I just HAVE to say it: Bellisimo and YummyMummy - You two have the most gorgeous sons..
I am having one with just the girls and we are probably going to have a 2nd one with a different set of our mutual friends with couples.
I think Jimmy Buffet theme, no dorky shower games sounds fun. It's YOUR shower, have it anyway you want!
