Need some ideas for anniversary/babymoon trip

So DH and I are thinking about taking a long weekend getaway for our anniversary (oct 6th).  Thought it would be a great way to have a "babymoon".  We live in charlotte, NC and want something inexpensive, fun, and easy.  Any ladies have any suggestions? We are totally stuck and all of our ideas (cruise, Caribbean, NYC) little too expensive like $2500. I need all your expertise ladies.  We haven't been away since our honeymoon 2 years ago!

  • Charleston, SC is a fun trip, Savannah, GA has always been one of my favorite places and St Augustine, FL is really fun.

I have an affinity for places with historical value. I will say that Charleston has battle sites, Savannah is great for a scary ghost tour and in St. Augustine you can stop by the fountain of youth and get some youth juice.

  • St. Augustine is amazing! That was one of my favorite trips as a teenager. Also, Gatlinburg is really pretty in Oct with the fall leaves and it wouldn't be far at all.

  • From Charlotte you could take a weekend in Ashville at the Biltmore?  In October it should be awesome!

We are doing DC and NYC, but we have family there, making it much cheaper!

I was going to suggest Asheville too.  I LOVE cabin in the mountain weekends - lots of places for one of those!

  • Going out to the east coast is probably going to be your most budget-friendly option during leaf-peeping season! We love long weekends in Savannah, it's such a relaxing place. There are tons of B&B's and reasonably priced hotels if you look around (near River St is where it costs $$$)  I think we'll be doing something similar, our anniversary is Oct 13th :-)

  • This is what I want to do (SO BADLY):

The rooms are a *little* expensive.  I've stayed at this hotel before though, and it's super nice.  The beach is really nice too.  If you're only going for a few days it could be affordable (definitely less than $2,500...even with your flights), and I think you'd get good weather.  Not too hot, but still hot enough for beach time.
  • Thanks for all the great Ideas.  We actually got engaged at the biltmore and have season passes so we go there usually 4-5 times a year.  Go to Charleston a bit too.  Savannah, FL, and duck sound like a great idea.  Gonna check into all of them.

Siesta Key is another great option for a long weekend. It's one of the nicest beaches in FL.
Is this in the keys? How far from charlotte?

  • There is quite a bit to do in Atlanta too!
  • A friend just did a B&B at St. Augustine and had the prenatal massage they offered--she loved it! I'm jealous of your options! I think we're going apple picking and staying at a B&B on the mid-coast of Maine mid Sept for ours!!

  • My DH and I are driving to DC for about 5 days. He took a weeks paid vacation, so we are able to go during the week when it will be a lil cheaper and not as many people.
  • Folly Beach, SC is my fave beach vacation spot.  The island is adorable and totally walkable.  Plus, you are really close to Charleston, so you could easily drive into town to see the historical sites, eat at yummy restaurants, and do some shopping! :)

Jumping in b/c I used to live 30 minutes from Siesta. :)  Siesta Key is just outside of Sarasota, FL, so nowhere near the other Keys. :)  It's a great sleepy beach island.  Lots of yummy restaurants, and gorgeous water and soft, white sand.  Definitely my fave in the area, but it can get really busy.  Luckily, if you're going in Oct, it should be pretty empty.  From Charlotte, it's ~9.5 hours.
