$125 office gift for baby

Hi! I tried this on the nursery and baby items forum but got crickets, so I'm wondering if you gals could help?

My husband's office wants to buy us a baby gift (it is a thing they do and they're all chipping in - so nice of them). They emailed me and asked me what we would like, and the budget is around $125.

Since we're not due for a long time I haven't even thought about baby stuff and TBH I'm a terrible shopper (I've never liked shopping) I have no idea!

So, what would you ask them to get you? Or what was the best gift you got, or you've given?

Thanks!

  • High chair maybe? Or a really fun toy. We have the fisher price step and play piano and DS has played with it everyday since 4 months. Pack n plays are around that price point too.

  • High chair, walker, a rocking chair or a bouncer. You could also ask for an assortment of diapers, wipes, blankets and onsies.

I second the pack and play idea. It's a staple and costs about that much.

Also a nice baby carrier, like an ergo baby, would be a treat and would get a lot of use. Cheaper carriers are out there, but if it isn't comfortable you won't end up using it.

One more idea- a video monitor system. I LOVED having mine. It's a definite must in my book.

Everyone is different, but our favorite baby items that we consider must-haves (aside from the crib & car seat) are: a swing that has the option to plug in, a snap & go stroller frame, Fisher Price rock n play, bumbo seat, sleepers that zip instead of snap, and lots & lots of diapers (size 1s)!

ETA: a full size pack n play is also on the list...not the travel kind, DD never used it.

  • I agree with the suggestions of starting a registry.  That way you can choose the specific items that you like and then point them in that direction.  That's awesome that they all chip in for a big gift!

Things we used in that price range included a jumperoo (starting around 4-5 months - DS absolutely LOVED it!), pack n play, high chair, a nice carrier (Ergo, Beco, Lilebaby, Tula are all really good ones) and you can even find a good crib in that range if you want to look at furniture.

  • Thanks, everyone!

Yes, it is very early but also so kind if them.

I didn't write it in my original post but I am feeling uncomfortable with dictating what gift to get me (I feel rude)!

I'm so glad to have your help to be able to answer in a way that does not have me come off as a greedy gift grabber!

Like you've suggested, I'm going to make a registry with a few items ranging in price from $20 up to $120 and then let them know they're welcome to pick whatever they think is cute and surprise us.

Thanks so much for the ideas for the registry! Now I'll just google them and add them in! :-)
  • Or you could ask for a gift card for wherever you will register and tell them you'll use it when you know better what you need.

  • We always go off the registry.  Are they giving it to you now.  If they are waiting they could always use your registry.  What about a nice travel/umbrella stroller?

  • Also, maybe ask for something that you really want, but maybe don't *need*. That, when it comes down to it, you probably wouldn't buy it for yourself.
  • Maybe ask for a gift card until you decide what you want/need?

  • @foxslaw‌ that's EXACTLY why I reccomended the step and play piano. I would NEVER buy that for myself but it has truly been a lifesaver. DS LOVES that thing so much.

  • Pack 'n Play - High Chair - Swing - Gift Card - Stroller - Wagon (DH's engineering team got us one when DD was born - it took a while to use but now we don't go anywhere without it) - Bouncer Seat

That is a really sweet thing to do!! But they are very proactive starting this soon :)

  • Pack and play, swing (with a plug in option) or stroller would be my top 3 suggestions. :)

  • Wow that seems early, doesn't it?

We made an Amazon registry around 12 weeks just to organize. It is not public but helped us look at reviews and figure out what we want. I think it would be great if you could just tell them you are going to start working on a registry soon and maybe they can just get something off of there so that you can be at least somewhat surprised. They may also get you a few smaller things instead of one item.

Items around that mark on our registry list:
