Why I am happy to be team green...

Not posting this to freak anyone out and obviously everyone knows that this is a possibility...

My bestfriend just gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby GIRL.

.... She was told she was having a boy.

I am in such shock right now I don't even know what to think!!

I helped her set up the nursery, and we had a boy themed baby shower, and have tons of boy clothes.... And have been referring to the little baby as "Jackson" for 21 weeks.

I feel terrible for her! Obviously she is grateful to have a healthy baby (and might I add a quick and smooth labor) but she is in such shock! I can't imagine bonding to a baby and then finding this out.

..... My head is spinning.

Re: Why I am happy to be team green...

  • Oh lord this is my worst fear!! Im scared she will grow something by the time i have her...

  • Ha! Yeah, if I hadn't done the genetic test I'd be waiting until birth to be truly convinced baby was a girl. This happens way too often.

  • That's the third time I've heard of that happening in the last month! I had 2 ultrasounds at the hospital last week and had both techs double check to make sure my little girl didn't have a weiner haha.
  • My Doctor said they have only been wrong twice in 14 years and they were both told to be girls and ended up having a boy. He says its a lot harder to get a boy wrong because there is clearly extra parts.

Haha I guess you never know. I am having another ultrasound at 28 weeks so hopefully they will look again.

  • This happened to a woman at the bloodwork lab I go to. She was told she was having a girl and made up her nursery with a tinker bell theme. Yea, no she had a boy. I don't think this happens too much for anyone to seriously worry :)

  • Oh man. How crazy!

During our u/s this one had to pee and had a little baby boner. The Dr said he would pay for the surgery to make this one a boy if he was wrong lol. I'm not too worried. :)

This was exactly what I asked for at my 2nd US. The tech showed me baby's "folds" so hopefully no surprises for me.

@sbevann26‌ what happened to your friend was terrible! I think the other way around is more common. Cuz sometimes boys hide their third leg and are mistaken as girls....hope she can return a lot of her clothes...

  • Happened to my friend too & she was all drugged up from long labor and c section. I was the first friend to walk in there with a blue balloon just to have my jaw hit the floor.

My ultrasound tech did say at our a/s that she was so sure mine's a girl that if she wasn't a girl at birth I had full permission to hunt her down.
  • This happened to a friend of mine. She had a girl shower with pink and purple everything and posted a picture of the u/s saying "it looks like she's sitting on glass" well turns out that she was a he. :/ I'm so afraid of that happening! But they have checked gender twice for me and said it was A-okay to buy pink.

This is exactly what happened to my mom. They were certain after three separate ultrasounds that my sister was definitely, 100% a boy. They had everything picked out. When the doctor said she was a girl, it was awesome! (for me at least, I didn't want a brother :P)

Shocking but thank goodness her baby is doing well! I will be super surprised if we have a girl because she clearly has something odd growing down there otherwise. It seemed very clear on the ultrasound. But there's always that tiny chance.

  • Omg!!! I'm going to freak out if the baby is not a boy because we are in painting mode. That alone would be so frustrating!!
Married my best friend 7/2/11 - Furbaby born 7/9/11 and brought into our home 9/1/11

BFP#1:   2/2/13 ~ exact m/c date unknown but around 3/20 at 10 weeks ~ diagnosed with PMP ~ D&C on 4/5 ~ TTA for at least 1 year due to PMP ~ cleared to TTC 1/14

    BFP#2:   2/7/14 ~ m/c 2/20/14 ~ possibly due to chemical pregnancy ~ TG no D&C is needed

Surprise BFP#3:  4/4/14 ~ super duper extra happy (and nervous) about this one - EDD 12/9/14!!!

John Joseph was born on 12/12/14 at 7 lbs. 11 oz.  He is the most beautiful rainbow baby we could have wished for!

  • Wow, I can't imagine the shock of KNOWING you're having one sex and then finding out at delivery it's another. At least she'll have a great story to tell.

*Sitting over here smugly on Team Green*
  • Whether it was a boy or not, I knew I wanted a blue nursery. If little guy pops out and is a little girl, she will have a cute bow tie onesie to come home in. But then I get to go shopping again!

  • I'm having a daughter, but partner and I both HATE over-gendering babies- why does my newborn need a tutu? Or a giant flower headband? Oh yeah, she doesn't. So if it ended up being a boy, everything we own would stay and be fine!

We only have one or two pink things, and even then... whatever! The kid is just gonna poop on it anyway! lol

  • I can think of a lot of things that could be worse. If I come home with a healthy, happy child, I could give a rat's arse about his/her genitals.

That said, if it happened to me, my poor son would have to cross-dress until I felt up for a shopping trip   :)
