confused...dates

So, FF gave me an EDD of April 19th. We had our first u/s on Monday. My doc just called with the results. They said everything looked normal, and I was measuring 5w 3d....WTF? I should be 6w 1d...and we saw a heartbeat with a rate of 95. Is that even possible at 5w3d??? I know when I ovulated, and understand a few days +/- due to implantation and so forth...but they told me April 24th. That's five days. BUT, my daughter also measured behind. There was a NINE day difference between FF and my OBs date (after measuring). So, I guess I just have small babies..

But what annoys me is they will go off this date, and base my induction and everything off of that. So if they induce me at 37 weeks I'd really be almost 38, which worries me since my daughter died at 37. I've been in a shit mood since getting the phone call. I'm angry and confused. I feel like each day that passes is a milestone, and now I have to live through week 6 again? It makes no sense. I am having another u/s on Wednesday.

What do you ladies think?

Many Hugs!! Please don't stress about this so early! The first ultrasound isn't considered a "dating" ultrasound and if your baby is measuring ahead for a couple of consecutive appointments then the EDD can and should be changed/moved forward. Give it a few appointments and see where your LO is measuring and then proceed with discussing the EDD and overall growth. Congrats on a strong heartbeat!!

(((Hugs))) I know this must be so frustrating for you. I wouldn't stress too much right now because the EDD may change as time goes on and if not, I would voice your concerns to the OB and maybe they will be willing to induce at 37 weeks based on your O date instead of the u/s?

PP have given fantastic advice and I really have nothing to add. It drives me crazy that they date based on average size of baby at u/s. You would never look at a teenager and assign an age based on height - there is too much variation. Just seems ridiculous and unscientific.

I am really sorry that you have to deal with this and that the implications of having the dating off are so great. T&Ps.

I had to relive week 6 also. It was torture. She measured 3 days off from what I predicted. I never had a clear shift so it was a crap shoot to go on. Every u/s since the dating one she has measured ahead. She is currently a week and a half ahead. I always get questioned when did they determine my due date. At this stage the baby is so small that the slightest off measurement can equal a few days. I am sure you can question them when you go back.

I'm glad that you have another scan. Hopefully like others have said, they can figure out your pattern. Plus any heartbeat that early is great news!!!!

I'm sorry! I don't like that you are feeling stressed after a scan that should have made you happy!

I think if you still feel the same after this next scan then you have to be honest with them. Let them know exactly why you're concerned (about your induction dates possibly being off, etc) and hopefully they can alleviate your stress. It's never too early to discuss your feelings about any part of the pregnancy. Making you feel better might be as simple as just hearing them say this is preliminary and they will change the date as things change.

Thanks ladies, this made me feel better. I'm having another scan next week, and probably another I'm sure before the end of 1st tri. My OB is really good so I'm sure she'd listen to me. My daughter's dates changed as well early on, so hopefully the pattern will show appropriate growth, in the end, that's all that matters!

I would try not to worry. At my 2nd appt when I heard the hb they measured me as 3 days behind and yesterday I measured as on target. Things can change as LO grows.
