At 6 weeks old, our little guy had a later bedtime as well. We tried to have him down between 8-9pm. We slowly worked that bedtime up to where it is now, b/w 6:30-7pm and that's worked for us. I'm sure you keep hearing that all babies are different so try to follow her cues!
Our little guy started out his 5 weeks wanting to go down at midnight, at around week 6, he started showing sleep signs and fussiness at about 8:30. So we started shower with dad at around 8:30 to tire him out, lotion, change, and dress, then finally feed to knock him out til his next night time feed when I join him in bed to sleep and nurse (before then he sleeps swaddled in his co-sleeper).
Little man is 8 weeks old and for the last 3 weeks or so has been going to bed between 830 and 930. He did that on his own, and frankly, I am not complaining.
Baby went to bed when we did the first 8 weeks ish (around 10) and then we started transitioning earlier since she has to get up at 7 now that I'm working again. She goes down about 7:30 and then wakes at 4:00ish to eat with some pacifier wake ups too. GL!
I've read that an ideal bedtime for newborns/infants is between 7-8pm. With both of our kids, we were initially putting them down later (9pmish); they did so much better when we moved their bedtimes earlier to 7 or 7:30pm!
My 5 month old is out by 9pm...around 2 months she went through an 11pm phase but she slowly brought that down on her own...if I keep her up till 10 she only gets up once or twice a night and eats 4oz each time but earlier she gets up at least 3 times and only eats 2oz each time
our little boy has been asleep between 9-10 since night 1 home from the hospital.... sometimes it is about 8:30 but it just depends on his nap... how long he sleeps & whether or not he is fussy
We put our 8 week old down around midnight most nights and I end up waking him up at 6:30am to eat before dropping him off at the babysitter. I need to move his last bottle up to more like 9:30 or 10 but it's not worked out that way yet. I'll try next week. For those that put your LO down around 8:30/9:00ish, are you feeding them in the middle of the night at all? I want to avoid a middle of the night bottle, I guess that's why we put him down a little later. It's a work in progress:) He's been sleeping through the night (5-6 hours) since 5 weeks, so I'm not complaining.
Since birth we've been putting LO to sleep between 7-7:30 and he sleeps until @ 7-8 the next morning waking 2-3 times to nurse then falls asleep while nursing (we bed share). He's 7 weeks so I know in the next few weeks he'll be going to bed earlier since he will be more awake during the day so bedtime will be more like 6:30. Oddly enough this was the same sleep schedule/pattern our other 3 kids had.
My 6 weeks old baby goes down between 11pm-midnight and mormally goes down for 3-5 hours, wakes up to feed then goes down for 3-4 hours and then wakes up to feed and then is down for a couple more hours.
Lately though she hasnt been napping well enough during the day and most of her naps (2 naps that are an hour or two long) are at around noon and early afternoon kind of almost attached to her night into morning sleep and then she is up from 4-5 pm and very crancky until 11-12 she could nap for an hour at 6-7 pm but any other naps during the day or night include her falling asleep for 5-10 mins and then waking up. She could go down for 30-40 mins max. When this happens she is down for 6 hours straight at night then wakes up to nurse and sleeps again for two hours then up for nursing then is down again for 1-2 hours.
Is this normal? Can i get her to sleep for a longer stretch without affecting her naps? Can i get her to not be crancky when she isnt napping much? She is usually super cranky and unconsolnle on the days that she has a dirty diaper. She only has one of those ever 2-3 days!!!

Around 4 weeks is when we went from baby sleeping whenever to trying to start a routine (obviously not sleep training, but trying to give him the idea of what happens at bedtime) and he was going to bed around 10. At 9-10 weeks we started putting him down around 9pm and that is going well and he is sleeping mostly through the night.
I plan to start pushing that back to about 8:30 and if that goes well then we will probably stick with that for a while since any earlier wouldn't work out as well for our family dynamic. Of course if LO wants a 7pm bedtime, he'll get it though.
@smhorak what time is his last feeding if you're putting him down around 9pm?
He gets a bottle of formula between 630 and 7 and between when we get him in pajamas and when we swaddle and put down I give him a "snack" by nursing since I'm not making much. It isn't a full feeding but it keeps him happy. It seems to be enough that he is content. Most nights he is ready for a full feeding around 5am but occasionally he will go until 7.
Thanks! @smhorak I fed LO at 9:40 last night and he was asleep by 11...going to keep moving it up a little bit each night so he goes to bed a little earlier each time. Hopefully by next week he's asleep by 10. DH doesn't get home from work til 10:15pm so he's not looking forward to it. He wants some time with his little buddy when he gets home:(
My baby is 12 weeks and has been pretty much asleep at 9pm every night for the past month. I go to the bedroom and start getting him ready at 8pm since he is getting fussy. I turn on his music box and lamp. Dress him, read him a book, feed him one last time then lay him in his crib. Sometimes he drifts right off and sometimes he wines alittle fighting his sleep but I'm right there beside him and help him with a pacifier. That is the only time he will take it! I'm so proud of him sleeping 6-8 hours each night!
I'm a FTM: How do i figure out a bedtime for my two month old baby girl? We are currently bed sharing but will be buying a Rock N' Play soon to move her into but still in our bedroom. And should I turn the lights off in our bedroom at night when she sleeps there before we go to bed? I'm trying to figure out how to go about her sleeping in our room and us not ready to go to bed yet?....
DD usually has a bath at 9, then bottle then sleep. She's usually out by 10:30 and sleeps until anywhere between 3-5 then sleeps again until 8-9. I keep trying to move up her bedtime little by little, but no matter when she goes down, she wakes up around 10:15-10:30. We rock her back to sleep and she sleeps fine. Any advice on how to move up her bedtime without her waking up at 10:30?
@Nicb13 she usually naps from 4-6, then takes a 30-45 min nap around 7, but then is up. She starts to fuss around 8:30-9, but if I do bath and bottle in time to put her to bed by then she wakes up at 10:30 on the dot...

Maybe that's just the schedule that works for her right now. Hard to know!
She's probably a night owl like I was as a child. It would just be nice if we could get her down closer to 9 to give DH and I a little us time and let us get to sleep earlier. By the time we unwind from getting her down its 11 or later and she wakes up once to eat, then we get up at 6 to go to work.
My 9 week old doesn't have a consistent bedtime pattern yet, but she usually goes down pretty late (9 or later) and sleeps for 5-6 hrs before her motn bottle. Last week she went down around 10:30 most nights but we were travelling and in a different time zone. Do babies get jet lag? When we got back home she got her 2 month vaccines which seemed to really throw off her feeding and sleeping, so this week she's been all over the place. We've been able to put her down around 7pm once but then she just napped, woke up around 9, fed, then fought sleep until around 11:30. Yesterday she wouldn't nap so she was overtired all day and went down around 8 (very early for her) and has been asleep since then aside from a paci wake-up at 3:30.
Re: What time is bedtime?
Edit: I picked this time schedule because I noticed LO always want to eat around 8:30. GL
every baby is different though!!!!
