Tongue tied bambino

I saw a lactation consultant and she recommended my LO get evaluated for tongue tie. I had been on my round 2 of mastitis and her latches were awful- kept popping off. Well, if you want your baby to sleep for 3 hours straight during the day, just stress them out and take them to an ENT specialist. JK. She ended up having a fairly decent moderate tongue tie which prevented her from raising her tongue well and sucking/nursing appropriately. She has been asleep since then (painful to hear baby cry louder than a hyena!) but I'm hoping this will help with feeding issues. Anyone else encounter this in or out of hospital? ENT Dr was surprised they didn't catch it in the hospital. You know… when my boobs were bleeding.

    Both my SILs had babies this year with tongue tie and neither one was caught in the hospital. They are both STMs and tongue tie is hereditary.. So one of them even asked for this to be looked for and the LC at the hospital said she thought the baby was fine. Both new babies had the laser surgery about a week after birth. I think LCs in the hospital are typically too busy to be really thorough, I'll be seeing an LC after leaving the hospital to answer any lingering questions I have.

    DS2 had a lip and tongue tie that was caught and corrected during our hospital stay. I recognized the lip tie and the pediatrician found the tongue tie.

    Just a note to say I was born tongue-tied. Had it corrected. You'd never know today. :)

    My DD was born with a tongue tie. Hospital staff did not catch it even though I asked a few different nurses "Do you think there something wrong with her mouth? Does she have an overbite or something?" Finally my pediatrician came for a 2nd day visit and confirmed a tongue tie. Her tongue looked heart shaped when she would cry so it was pretty obvious. My peditrician said that they would clip it at the office visit day 4. By day 4 the baby hadn't been eating enough and became jaundiced. So we had to go back to the hospital for treatment and use formula. Finally got it clipped day 6. I think delaying it really hurt breastfeeding which she is just starting to do successfully and we're at week 4.

    My mother confirmed that she was tongue tied and I was as well. They didn't clip mine until I was 4 and developing some speech problems. By that age it was more of a surgery whereas my DD's procedure was over in seconds.

    After reading your post I've searched google and investigated DD's mouth I've noticed she has an upper lip tie as well! Never heard of it before and the pediatrician didn't notice or tell me about it. Did they clip your DS's upper lip too?

    My lo had it taken care of about 24 hrs after he was born. An ent came to our room and took care of it right away. Everyone, even the nurses, were surprised that it happened so fast.
