Those who've had hemorrhoids lanced-what kind of aftercare?

Hello, Just had the hemorrhoid lanced and drained today. Some blood clots were removed too. I was really loving the local anesthesia (sp.) but it is wearing off now. I have a small paper of instructions but just wondering how others have dealt with the pain and aftercare. I don't think Tylenol is going to cut it. :(

  • Ugh, I had to have this done at 1 week post-c/s.  I actually didn't mind the pain from that procedure because it was less painful than the hemmie.  Tylenol is all I used, unfortunately.  Maybe some Dermaplast to try to numb the area?  Did your doctor give you Proctosol or something like that to soothe them?  That could also help.

  • Omg. I feel for you guys. Just the title of the post terrifies me.
By far the worst part of L&D for me was the thrombosed hemorrhoids.  Though I did feel better and actually had a bit of a laugh when my OB went to inject one with local anesthetic and it burst and exploded blood all over him.  Like my hemmies were getting revenge on my behalf for having to sit there for a week.  While I was recovering from a c/s and couldn't like, lay on my side or on my stomach instead.

  • Numbing spray
  • Wipes to clean after BMs, Tylenol, sitz baths...it took me a week or so to feel completely normal again.

  • I have no advice but just wanted to say I am sorry you are going through this and prayers you find some relief.
  • This is awful. And makes me nervous :-S Lancing hemorrhoids sounds terrifying. I didn't have this problem after DS' delivery, but he was so small and so easy to push...is it weird for me to fear hemorrhoids more than childbirth? Lol

Nope!!! I had a 7 pound baby c-section and got them 1 week pp. I never even had to push. The one I had was awful and very painful but went away after about a month. It was worse than the c-section.
  • Yep, I never got to pushing stage.  My DD was 7 lbs 12 oz and I never dilated past a 6.  I felt them pop out about 3-4 hours after surgery.  I think I stayed taking Percocet as long as I did (and at that, only a week) because of the hemorrhoids, more so than the surgery.

  • That's really interesting! I suppose I assumed you get hemorrhoids from pushing. What causes them when you have a c/s? @Justabean3‌ and @trisharenee0316‌?

So contrary to what most people think with a c/s you still get vaginal swelling and in my case I had a hematoma under incision site from them being so rough getting the baby out ( I didn't feel it). They didn't drain the hematoma but let it absorb. It went down and into the cells around all my girl bits. This is TMI but everything looked a bit like black and blue utters down there. It caused extra pressure and cause 2 grape sized hemmroids from all the extra blood flow.

BUT besides my actual problem the OB told me that they are really common for people that have had a c/s also and show up 1-2 weeks pp.

@Justabean3‌ That sounds incredibly painful! I had a hematoma in my neck following my total thyroidectomy. That was no fun at all, and your neck is nowhere near as sensitive!

I knew that moms who delivered via c/s have postpartum bleeding like vaginal deliveries, but I had no idea about the swelling. Makes sense, though. Thanks for the info!

  • This thread got me feeling light-headed. I'm so sorry for anyone who's ever had to do this--how awful!! I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Please let me never experience this. I need a cold wash cloth on my head now [-O<

Ice helps a lot for swelling in the bits c/s or not :)
  • This has been hell. Sorry for the nightmares to those who have not been through it! Lol I pray you don't. It's a bit better today. Taking Tylenol with codeine and topical cream. I wish I knew how to tag people here but to those who went through it (sorry, TMI..cannot believe I'm writing all this) did the actual hemorrhoids go down in size right away for you? They are still there! For some reason I thought they'd be these attractive sort of deflated skin tags after the procedure

I was told mine were from laboring all day and the contractions (especially when my epi ran out so I just had straight up pitocin contractions).  Apparently they can get worse from that if you had any hemorrhoids during pregnancy.  No bueno.

@imagine7696030614 - They got much smaller, but didn't disappear because he mostly just cut out the blood clots that prevented the skin from shrinking down and going back into place.  I kept using the topical cream and Tucks pads, kept downing Colace like it's my full time job (and water, and juice to soften things up) and eventually it all went down.  I'd say it took about a week?

  • I feel the same, more scared for the hemorrhoids after then giving birth natural! Only because I have a tendency to get them..
