Weight gain

How many pounds are we supposed to be gaining during our second trimester? I've heard a pound a week. Just wondering-I haven't gained any weight since I've been pregnant, I've actually lost some weight. If I'm not gaining, does that mean my baby isn't growing?

Re: Weight gain

  • What has your OB told you?

  • I am in the same place (haven't gained and also lost) and at my 13 week NT ultrasound my baby was measuring ahead by a couple days! I am now 17 weeks and my next ultrasound is in 2 weeks. I started about 5-10 lbs overweight so I'm not worried and I don't think my doctor will be either. I see her at my 19 week ultrasound/checkup. Everyone's body is different. Those "you should gain" things are just estimates! But if you are concerned you don't have to wait til your next appointment. Just call! :)
  • There is no set amount that you should gain.  As long as your doctor seems happy with your progress you and baby are fine!

  • I've only had one appt, and it was with a nurse-haven't even met my doctor yet. I'll just stop worrying and see what my doctor has to say when I go see her on the 9th. I understand everyone is different, and it depends on your body type, I was just wondering what everyone else's doctors have said. But apparently my question is lame to some ppl and it's getting annoying seeing the same posts over and over again. Well sorry, but i don't have time to scroll through pages and pages of discussions to find the thread I'd like input on. In my opinion if you see a thread your sick of reading about, simply don't click on it! Sorry for ranting-I'm not applying this to any of you who responded to my question, but rather to someone who mentioned me in a completely different post. Maybe this just isn't a discussion board I should be on, I don't deal well with rude and disrespectful ppl! I'll save my questions for my doctor. Thanks girls!
  • As I mentioned, it was none of these answers that upset me, the one that did is on a completely different thread.
  • Oh okay, well don't worry, weight gain or not, as long as your baby is healthy, you're safe.

  • @tooteroid‌ seriously? Get over yourself. That other post was created so that people can be more sensitive to those struggling with body image and eating disorders. It was not "rude or disrespectful" in any way.

  • @mands1125‌ -I'm not even sure what thread your talking about. I simply put a question up about weight gain and someone said it was annoying that I was asking that after it's already been mentioned. I thought it was rude, because I've also seen posts that annoyed me, but I just don't read them then, I'm not disrespectful and say mean things about it. Everyone is entitled to questions and concerns, especially if your a first time mom.
  • Step away from the scale try to eat as healthy as you can and let your Dr worry about your weight.

Was this about my weight gain thread?  It was not directed at you.

Also, this is the internet.  People are going to post whatever the hell they feel like.  As you said yourself, if you don't like someone's comment, ignore it.  If you're going to get offended over someones response to you then I agree that this isn't the place for you.

  • @WanderingA‌ -no this has nothing to do with your thread or your comment. You are not the one that upset me.
  • In most cases your baby can still get what it needs even if you haven't gained weight yet in the second tri. Some peoJust keep eating enough and you won't end up malnourished or with osteoarthritis!
  • Uugh! Big thumb post. I'd written it but wasn't going to post it after reading where this post was going.

    Sorry!

You know what. I think you need to grow a thicker skin. Yeah your post was annoying to some because there are multiple posts asking the same damn question. Not to mention one that is honestly better to ask your Dr since it entirely depends on you, your bmi, and your pregnancy. Not mine or anyone else's on the internet.

  • and google. These are the general guidelines most doctors give, based off BMI.
Yeah seriously. I've already googled this multiple times.

OP if you are referring to this post.  I don't think it was meant against you.  It was actually meant more of a PSA to FTM.  @wanderlingA is trying to tell us not to worry and that we are all different.  I like the STM advice on this board.  Many of them have been on previous BMB boards and they know the topics that can cause some fire.  I'm sure they are all excited about the upcoming 3rd trimester "am i in labor posts".

  • I'm sure this reply is going to start more "drama", however, I downloaded this app in 2011, when I was trying to conceive, didn't participate in any discussion boards until late July, early August (2014) after finding out I was pregnant. So your right, I'm not as active as many of you, since I haven't been on here very long, another reason why I'm not in the loop as to what topics are annoyingly repetitive. Also the last time I checked, almost every thread is a question/concern that someone has, so not really sure why your making it out to make me feel as if this isn't the place to ask questions. Also since joining the discussion board, I've been active commenting on others posts on a daily basis.
Really didn't think asking ONE weight gain question was going to cause so much crap! I know I'm not the only one who has this same question (obviously since apparently there are a lot of repeats of this very same topic), I wonder if those threads were given a bunch of grief?!
Aye yi yi, I ain't got time for this! Nor the patience at this point! Thank you to those of you who have been helpful to me so far since joining, I wish you all the best of luck with your pregnancies!
  • No idea what that means...
  • You can ask questions. But if you spent any time here recently you would know the repeat questions (nub guesses, baby's sex is, AW my announcement, etc). You don't need to have been around for more than a few days to know this. But if you ONLY come here to post your own questions and not read other threads, try to get to know anyone, etc then that's the problem.

For what it's worth I don't think weight has been too overdone. I don't think this post was annoying. I don't know why it evolved into this. You're welcome to stay and participate, just understand it's a community

So, how do you handle rude and disrespectful people IRL? The world is full of all kinds of people. People that may or may not be rude or disrespectful. I think you need to grow thicker skin if a forum is upsetting you that much.
