Will you find out your baby's gender? Yes or No, and why?

Just curious. We found out with baby #1 and said we would wait on baby #2. Now we're not so sure. At this point we still have plenty of time to decide. I just wondered what other people were doing and why.

    We have no other good reason other than I'm type A personality, control-freak and want to know everything as soon as possible. For setting up the nursery, choosing the colors and theme and then to let everyone else know, so if they're going to buy us stuff, clothes or toys, they'll know who they're shopping for. This is our first baby, but I imagine I'll want to know for the second too, knowing me! ;)

    I didn't find out the first time, mostly because DH wanted the surprise.  I hated it at first, but after about 18 weeks it didn't seem to matter much anymore.  All of our stuff was neutral, so I can use it all again, and that is a huge advantage.  I'm tempted to find out this time if only to be able to clear out the gender specific stuff that I have in the attic.

    This is our first and I definitely want it to be a surprise.  DH wants to know but admits he can't keep a secret.  We declined to learn the gender with the Panorama, and for our a/s scan in a few weeks I am going to tell them the same - and make sure it is clearly stated in our chart that we don't want to know.

    I feel like there are so few real surprises in life (particularly in this day and age) - and finding out if our baby is a boy or girl when he/she makes a grand entrance into the world will be an amazing one (and perhaps give me incentive to push) :)

    But I also totally get why someone would choose to know.

    Did both times. I can't imagine NOT finding out if it's so easy these days. I like surprises but not of this kind.

    Well, I'm like @mdogan29 in my Type-A control freak OCD-ness. My husband is more like @lady2010. He thinks there are no real surprises, he loves surprises, and the surprise of "It's a ____" in the delivery room is something he really wants.

    Our compromise with baby #1 was to regsiter before we found out so we'd get a bunch of gender neutral stuff. When we found out, we kept it to ourselves until we did a gender reveal at the baby shower 3 months later. Then everyone else also bought us neutral stuff.

    With this one, he wants it all to be a surprise. But my control-freak self isn't so sure about that. I don't want to deny him of his delivery room surprise. But he knows that letting me find out the gender gives me the slightest bit of control over a pregnancy which I otherwise have no control over.

    We found out both times.  I was indifferent about knowing and DH wasn't willing to wait.  We still have the surprise of seeing him in person for the first time and getting to know his personality.

    Didn't find out any of the other times, but will probably find out this time. It was lots of fun each time, but also caused a lot of needless name research! This time, I just would like to know b/c I would like to start organizing clothes and planning the room. This is our last baby and having done gender-neutral planning each time, I wouldn't mind buying a few girl/boy items up front. :)

    Also, we'd like a brother for DS and DH would really like another boy for balance (rather than 3 girls, 1 boy!). While of course we just want healthy and are fine either way, I think he wants to be emotionally prepared if it's another girl.

    We plan on finding out.  DH hates surprises, and I guess we're both excited to find out.  We're not into the gender specific colors and themes, but feel it is an important piece in preparing for the arrival of our baby - like naming and trying to bond with the baby while still in the womb.

    I do not want to know.   As I told my mom, I was always good at not peeking at the christmas presents either.

    I have asked my boyfriend what he wants.  If he really wants to know, he can, but better keep it a secret.

    THIS!!! We found out with our first because my husband insisted. I got my way with #2 and we waited until the birth. With #3 we flipped a coin and I won so we won't be finding out unless something were to go wrong with the baby. Then I feel like I will want to know as much about him or her as possible.

    I want to find out. Not sure about DH yet - he works out of town right now so we have not had a chance to talk about it yet. We will be getting the panaroma test around week 10 and we have the option of finding out -- I really want to know as this will be my first and only. DH has a 26 yo son and he really wants a girl but we will be happy with either as long as the baby is healthy.

    I absolutely had to know with my daughter. I'm somewhat ambivalent this time. I think 11 years have mellowed me out some, lol. This time I don't have to try so hard to imagine what a new baby in the family will be like even tho I am remarried.

    Yes, we will find out the sex. Why? Because I want to know! I see nothing to gain in waiting. It's going to be a surprise either in two weeks or in seven more months. What's the difference?

    BFP! Out of nowhere, I got KU the old fashioned way! POAS 1/26/14 - Positive! FDLM 12/30/13. Beta #1 16dpo= 373. Beta #2 18dpo= 801. EDD 10/6/14
    2/4/14 1st U/S revealed a 5wk2day sac but no fetal pole. Started 200mgs of progesterone suppositories daily
    2/11/14 2nd U/S revealed a perfect 6wk1day "diamond ring" embryo with a beating heart! 138bpm! Add 1mg folic acid and 40mg Lovenox
    2/25/14 3rd U/S: perfect 8w1d embryo, 178bpm. 3/6 start spotting. 3/11 10w1d U/S shows no heartbeat. Scheduling D&C. The Stork has forsaken me again.
    IVF #5.2: New in-state RE. Supplement priming for 1.5 cycles prior to start of cycle, including DHEA 50mg (stopped 5/15), CoQ10 200mg 2x/day, L-Arginine- 1000mg 2x/day (stopped 6/5 due to cold sore!), myo-inositol- 2g 2x/day, melatonin- 3mg, and Neevo (prenatal for MTHFR).
    5/16/14 Day 2 bw cycle prior: FSH- 12.22, E2- 38.37, Prog- 1.35, LH- 9.46. 6/2/14 Day 19 bw: Prog- 23
    6/12/14 Baseline: E2- 122.7, Prog- 0.4. 5 follicles in left, 4 follicles in right. Start stims: 375IU Follistim & 150IU Menopur. 6/19 Increase Follistim to 425IU, Menopur still 150IU. 6/18 add Ganirelix. 6/23 Ovidrel trigger SQ. 6/25 ER: 8R, 8M, 5F naturally. Start Medrol & Doxy. 6/26 Start Endometrin. 7/2 Start Lovenox.
    7/8/14 Beta= 137.4 BFP!!! (My first from IVF!) E2- 1109, Prog- >60. Stop CoQ10, myo-inositol, and melatonin. 7/9 2nd Beta= 281.4. TSH- 2.70. Increasing Synthroid to 100mcg daily. 7/24 6w3d u/s measured 6w3d, hb: 121bmp! 8/5 8w1d u/s measured 8w3d, hb: 164bpm! Graduated from RE to OB. Now I just need to find an OB!

    @mdogan29, Yes! FTM here as well! Haha- Yes, my siggy is my badge of honor (and pain) for now. It will disappear if I get a THB out of this! You know, I hate my DD, so I think I'm changing mine to 3/18/15 too! Hmm, your ticker says you are 9w6d. I am 10w1d. So maybe my doc is off anyway! I demand a recalculation! :p

    Congrats to you! Are you planning to find the sex out via blood test or u/s? I hope to have a blood test in the next week. Can't wait!

    @chucktgirl - I can tell that was a lot of work, it's definitely worth it to keep up there and will be so exciting when that baby arrives! :) Congrats to you too!

    I plugged in that same date on all my phone apps too and they all say I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow and I believe I conceived on June 25th which is a Wednesday also, so I think that DD is correct! Go ahead, change it - we can go through this first time stuff together! ;) 

    We'll probably never deliver on that date anyway, I was actually hoping baby would come a week or 2 earlier (I know, dumb reason, but we have 3 nephews with March b-days 12th, 15th & 27th - so I'd like my baby to not have to share parties or get pushed back - we live 3+ hours away from them!), so as long as everything is healthy/safe, it's fine with me for baby to come any time between the end of Feb and up to the DD.

    Yes!! I am definitely finding out, tomorrow is my 10wk U/S and also doing the MaterniT21 blood test which can tell you the sex, so looking forward to that! Is that what you're doing too?  I'm really hoping to see a baby-shaped baby on the U/S, just very excited! :)

    Chucktgirl-- you hate your St Patrick's Day due date???? That is a Knife in my heart!!! Our ET was St Patrick's Day and I think the extra luck finally pushed us over the edge :-)

    Yes we found out. After 3.5 yrs of treatment, I'd had enough surprises. Also, these will be our only babies so I didn't want gender neutral stuff. I want to buy what I want and think I earned that after everything we went through. Finally, we can't even come up with 2 girls names-- no way I could come up with 4 if we didn't know what we were having.

    TTC #1 since 8/1/10; Me:41 and BRCA1+, DH:46
    DOR (FSH 24.3)/ terrible egg quality ; homozygous MTHFR c677t
    5 IUI's: 2/11 to 6/11 and 1/12= BFN
    OE IVF#1-4 8/11-6/12= all BFN

    Oh, I know, but YOU are @Mrs.McIrish! So it's perfect for you. And I do think your ET date did give you extra luck. I just really don't want to have my child share a birthday with a holiday. Nothing against St. Patrick's Day. I just take birthdays super seriously. They are an event in themselves. I know it's unrealistic that I would actually give birth that day anyway, but if I can calculate a different one, I want to try, just to give me a better vibe about it all. I just get so confused about how to calculate it. First day of last period was 6/10, ER was 6/25, and ET was 6/30. How would you calculate my DD?

    ETA: Hey! I just found an IVF calculator that uses your Retrieval date. I AM due on 3/18/15! Yay! I also discovered that I'm only 10w0d, when I thought I was 10w2d. I'm excited for the new DD, but I was disappointed to find that I have two extra days of pregnancy. :( Haha!

    Me: 42, Hubby: 35, TTC since Jan 2010. Dx: DOR due to advanced maternal age. Also: Hypothyroidism (100mcg Levothyroxin). Positive for MTHFR (hetero-C677T), Factor V Leiden, and Fragile X (on DH side). Taking pre-natal vitamins    .
    First natural PG 9/27/11; mc: 1/20/12
    First RE visit: 8/8/12, Saline Sonogram: 8/28/12, IVF injection class: 10/11/12, add FaBB Tab for FVL, +Vitamin D.
    IVF #1: 10/17/12 Baseline: FSH- 9.4, E2- 24, LH- 3.7, Prog- 0.3 The u/s showed 6 follicles in my right  & 9 in my left. Rx: 150 Bravelle & 150 Menopur SQ nightly. 10/21/12: Add Ganirelix SQ every morning.
    ER 10/28/12: 13 Retreived. 7 Mature. 6 Fertilized. 5 Made it to PGS. ET 11/2/12: CANCELED. All 5 came back from PGS as having "severe abnormalities."

    IVF #4:     (Added acupuncture to this cycle.) 3/25/13 WTF & Baseline: FSH-11.8, E2- 56, Prog- 0.84 3/26/13 Start stims. 3/30/13 u/s: 5 follicles in my right & 4 in my left. Rx: 225 Bravelle& 225 Menopur SQ in PM. 3/31/13 Add Ganirelix SQ in AM.hCG Trigger 4/3/13 SQ.
    ER 4/5/13: 5R, 3M, 3F naturally. Day 3: two 8 cell, grade 0, one 8 cell, grade 2 (Scale 0-best to 3-worst). Five day ET 4/10/13: two blastocysts (the 3rd stopped growing.) Beta 4/18/13: 2.5 BFFN. RE recommends we stop trying and focus on living childless, due to the extremely poor quality of my eggs.
    ***Decided to stop trying and live CFNBC. I couldn't adjust. So, six months later...
    IVF #5: Changed RE. Going to one of the big name clinics now. OWDU: 10/29/13. Update: HORRIBLE experience. Disgusted and distraught at their complete unprofessionalism and how much money and precious time they cost us. Sickening. Have now changed RE again. New Patient appt. 1/30/14.
    BFP! Out of nowhere, I got KU the old fashioned way! POAS 1/26/14 - Positive! FDLM 12/30/13. Beta #1 16dpo= 373. Beta #2 18dpo= 801. EDD 10/6/14
    2/4/14 1st U/S revealed a 5wk2day sac but no fetal pole. Started 200mgs of progesterone suppositories daily
    2/11/14 2nd U/S revealed a perfect 6wk1day "diamond ring" embryo with a beating heart! 138bpm! Add 1mg folic acid and 40mg Lovenox
    2/25/14 3rd U/S: perfect 8w1d embryo, 178bpm. 3/6 start spotting. 3/11 10w1d U/S shows no heartbeat. Scheduling D&C. The Stork has forsaken me again.
    IVF #5.2: New in-state RE. Supplement priming for 1.5 cycles prior to start of cycle, including DHEA 50mg (stopped 5/15), CoQ10 200mg 2x/day, L-Arginine- 1000mg 2x/day (stopped 6/5 due to cold sore!), myo-inositol- 2g 2x/day, melatonin- 3mg, and Neevo (prenatal for MTHFR).
    5/16/14 Day 2 bw cycle prior: FSH- 12.22, E2- 38.37, Prog- 1.35, LH- 9.46. 6/2/14 Day 19 bw: Prog- 23
    6/12/14 Baseline: E2- 122.7, Prog- 0.4. 5 follicles in left, 4 follicles in right. Start stims: 375IU Follistim & 150IU Menopur. 6/19 Increase Follistim to 425IU, Menopur still 150IU. 6/18 add Ganirelix. 6/23 Ovidrel trigger SQ. 6/25 ER: 8R, 8M, 5F naturally. Start Medrol & Doxy. 6/26 Start Endometrin. 7/2 Start Lovenox.
    7/8/14 Beta= 137.4 BFP!!! (My first from IVF!) E2- 1109, Prog- >60. Stop CoQ10, myo-inositol, and melatonin. 7/9 2nd Beta= 281.4. TSH- 2.70. Increasing Synthroid to 100mcg daily. 7/24 6w3d u/s measured 6w3d, hb: 121bmp! 8/5 8w1d u/s measured 8w3d, hb: 164bpm! Graduated from RE to OB. Now I just need to find an OB!

    We're going to find out. No particular reason other than I really, really want to know, and the sooner the better!  I can have the Harmony test next Friday and will be first on line at the lab!
