For those who are pumping, how long do you do it? I've been double pumping (one funnel on each boob at the same time) for about 12-15 minutes per session. Is that a long time? Too short?
That's how long I usually go for double pumping. I have been pumping into the Medela 80ml tubes but I'm going to move to the freezer bags now which are bigger so maybe it'll show me that I can go longer but I do generally feel "empty" after 15 or so min.
TTC #1 since August 2011 w/ unexplained IF
09/12-11/13: 3 TIs, 3 IUIs, ICSI/PGS IVF & 2 FETs
08/14: Our little miracle has FINALLY arrived - 3 years after we started trying!
I just started pumping twice a day. I pump for 13 minutes-- I noticed at that point the milk stops. I only get 2-3 ounces total.
Sorry to hijack, but how do I increase my output? First pump is after first morning feed. Second pump is around 7pm while DH gives a bottle.
2-3 ounces is quite a bit if it's after a nursing session. Pumping longer may give you a second letdown. Or pump more often. You can try pumping for 10 min, stop for 10 min, pump another 10 min, etc. to increase supply.
DS is 4 weeks old and still nursing a lot (about 10-12 times a day). I just started pumping once or twice a day to start a freezer stash. I usually get 1.5 - 3 ounces total depending on how long it's been since he nursed.
