UO's

do we even have any left?

Re: UO's

  • I prefer my gummy vitamins when they're a little bit stale. I like when they're harder to chew.

    I also love flat soda.

  • I didn't find that blog post about getting kids ready for school 70s vs. Today all that funny.  It was just a bunch of overplayed generalizations about parents and basically another post telling parents today how we're doing things wrong.

I didn't post in the thread because I didn't wnat to be the debbie downer taking everything so damn seriously when I *know* the blog post was intended to be light-hearted and poking fun. It's just such a tired topic.

  • I buy strollers that will allow me to keep my 3yo in them for as long as possible. Right now my jogging stroller goes up to 60 lbs, and it's such a relief knowing that I can stick him in there if I need to. I can't stand it when the kid is clearly too big (like a 6yo in a cheap umbrella stroller) for the stroller, but beyond that, you do what you gotta do. :)

I prefer to wash my dishes by hand because I feel like the dishwasher doesn't get them clean enough. (I'm grabbing for straws here. ;) I'm out of UOs)

My UO is that it seems every single UO thread or FFFC thread has to have someone playing devils advocate. I think that's why they're so lame lately. I think we are all intelligent women, and understand things like the PP who was talking about an older child in a stroller in no way meant that she would think the same regarding a disabled child. This is not direct at you @DreamingBabies, just an example. It happens every week.

Along the same lines, when someone posts something that could even SLIGHTLY offend someone, there has to be a long explanation almost backing out of what they said in the first place, just in case someone got hurt by it. It's OK to have disagreements with others in a respectful way! It's how we grow as people. I know I've learned a lot just from reading on here, and my have changed the way I think about more than one thing. It's a good thing.

But you wouldn't know that a stranger has a disability or not, so she might have those thoughts regarding a child with a disability. I wasn't playing devils advocate about the older kids in strollers to be combative, I am simply expressing my point of view.

In regards to @lalaprep's comment, yes I was playing devil's advocate there, but I called myself out on that.

Oh I know you weren't trying to be combative. And again, it wasn't directed towards you, I just used an example of how a small UO could be turned into something more than what was originally meant, that's all.
  • I don't see the point of judging stroller use. My niece looked six at age three. She rode in a stroller.

Perhaps the kids at Disney are going to be in the park all freaking day. Adults get tired and get sore feet there. Why wouldn't you make your day more enjoyable by letting the kid spend part of the day riding? DS is a great hiker but walking wipes him out. With the cost of Disney, I'd have him ride in a stroller even though he'll hike five miles without whining.

The flags on cars is also a strange thing to be upset by. It's a car magnet. They're living in Canada so clearly they like it enough to live there. What's so bad about acknowledging love of another country?

  • I don't understand the "you shouldn't judge!" responses (in general, not just today). Everyone judges, just not everyone says anything about it. Am I going to tell someone that their 8 year old shouldn't be in a stroller? No. Am I gonna side-eye them? Probably.

I never said I didn't judge. I'm judging right now.

I think kids in a stroller is an incredibly dumb thing to judge. There are a crapload of reasons the 8 year old kid is in a stroller (and really, the kid may not be eight). It's just a silly thing to care about when you're not pushing the stroller.

  • I didn't want an exersaucer or bumbo seat. And now I'm not using sippy cups or mesh feeders. This is apparently unpopular because people look at me like I have 5 heads then launch into a 15 minute argument trying to convince me to stop depriving my kid of the joys of exersaucing.
I'm just wondering how you drink your coffee in the morning, because my exersaucer lets me accomplish that.

I'm also not using mesh feeders. We will do sippies, but I haven't given it more thought than that.

I'm also not in a hurry to let my kid try to feed himself. It's a big enough mess when I feed him.

Mesh feeders I get (those things are a pain in the ass to clean). Sippy cups I assume you're going to just start with open cups when LO starts using one?

But what's your reasoning for the exersaucer. DD loves the shit out of hers. I don't think you're depriving your baby, but wondered why you don't want one.

  • I think manicures are a waste of $. I can do my nails just fine myself and it's not like the paint lasts longer anyway. Plus my nails grow too fast for gel/acrylic manicures.

Now pedicures on the other hand... I will gladly pay someone to rub my feet and get the calluses off! I wouldn't even care if they didn't paint my nails.

  • @codypup I always see people complaining about their SO playing videogames and how they are so dumb to watch? Haha. Maybe it isn't as unpopular as I thought and I'm just friends with a bunch of weirdos on facebook.

  • I also love my double BOB. It rocks but I only use it for walks or for outings like the zoo. We'll be taking it to Disneyland in October for sure. I also have a B Ready but I haven't even taken it out of the box.

  • I like the mesh feeder for avocado. LO loves it, and prefers to feed himself. For frozen we have something similar that is terry cloth that you can put ice cubes inside.
