A lil TMI…but am i the only one?

OMG I SWEAR I AM ABOUT TO LOOSE IT! i am officially 34 weeks, and I'm so sick of all these yeast infections! i swear in my 29 years on this earth….and 2 babies later, this little girl is giving my body the blues. And I am so sorry to be so up front about it ladies, but is anyone else experiencing this? Literally, I will go a whole month….drinking up to 4 liter water bottles a day….no discomfort or anything…then BOOM out of nowhere I get one for the next 3 weeks. Most of the time i will get a prescription from my dr for relief. But 9 out of 10 times, the meds make it worse before making it better :( UGH I'm just super frustrated. And the worse part is that LO is constantly moving and laying all on my bladder…..lol no sympathy from her. Any suggestions to having temp relief besides the prescriptions or prevention?

Thanks in advance

  • No temporary relief suggestions, but are you taking probiotics or sleeping commando? There are certain things you can do in general that are helpful for keeping that area healthy. :)

  • I have only had one this time but my SIL had them almost her entire pregnancy last time. She hasn't had one since and none with this pregnancy either.

    Try eating yogurt.
  • nope not sleeping commando…i wear looser undies to sleep in for comfort….but yup the antibiotics help after like 3 days..but my body initially "rejects" them first :(

  • Switch undies more often... Loose ones at night. Use feminine wash if you don't while you shower and or commando is always a option
  • yea I'm thinking i will start switching more often too. i mean don't get me wrong lol i shower twice a day and all….but i think switching undies is a good look too

Yeah I go through maybe two to three a day just to prevent yeast infections...

Hmm...I don't shower twice a day, but I do change my underwear at least 2 or 3 times a day. Even with a panty liner, my swampiness will not allow for more than a few hours per pair. Isn't pregnancy just lovely?

Commando at night is recommended pregnant or not for airing out. Probiotics and/or yogurt help maintain a good pH down there and help keep good bacteria fighting off the bad.

  • I had one right when I first got pregnant - it was terrible! I found that the only way I could get relief was to sit in a colodial oatmeal bath. I even slept in the tub a few nights.
  • Take acidophilus supplements daily and switch to either Dove soap or Dr. Bronner's unscented bar soap. I have had chronic yeast infections about 4 times a year since puberty until I started doing these things. For relief I would say a warm bath with no products.

Your body rejects the antibiotics? Please explain further?

Also, how many infections have you had this pregnancy and how far apart have they been? How long are the courses of antibiotics you've been given? Are you seeing the same doctor for this every time? Or diferent doctors in the same practice possibly?

In pregnancy a lot of people don't even know they have an infection. The first few days taking antibiotics for yeast infections specific you get massive symptoms where you had none before. Then after several days they start to go away.

Reoccurring yeast problems is extremely common because of constant hormonal changes and moisture.
  • I read antibiotics as the medication/anti fungal they give you like monistat, duflican or whatever else the Ob is telling us to get. I didn't think she was meaning actual antibiotics like Penicillin
  • Ive had one bad bladder infection this pregnancy and they put me on antibiotics and i immediately asked about a probiotic as to avoid a YI! My doc said cranberry juice(for bladder infection prevention), yogurt(for YI prevention) and to continue probiotic for prevention of both!
Also like PP said commando and loose clothes and changing underwear frequently will help
  • I third (fourth?) the advice to go see your doctor.

I have had more than one yeast infection since my teenage years and was sure I had another one when I was around 16 weeks along with this pregnancy.  My doctor did a swab and to my suprise, it was BV, which I've never had before.  I was put on antibiotics which then caused a YI.  After a round of anti-fungal suppositories, that cleared up and things have been okay since.

  • When you say your body rejected the meds at first, do you mean your symptoms got worse before getting better?? I'm pretty sure that's a common side effect. All the yeast infections treatment inserts I've read have said as much.

Get on a probiotic ASAP. I take one called Femdophilus. Make sure it's refrigerated.

If your Dr verifies that you do have a yeast infection, stay away from sugar and air that thing out as much as possible. I would rinse with water after each bathroom visit and use a hair dryer on low to make sure it wasn't staying too moist. I also washed my underwear in hot bleachy water.
  • I'm really surprised to hear that you've been prescribed antibiotics for a yeast infection. Like a PP stated above, antibiotics can cause YIs. I've had issues with YIs. I find that eating a tons of yogurt, hydrating and wearing cotton underwear, and washing out after sex minimizes recurrence. As for immediate relief, monistat 3 does the trick and is safe during pregnancy according to my OB.
  • I eat yogurt most every morning and I haven't had any with this pregnancy nor my first.
  • thanks ladies..as of recently I've been changing undies more often and going commando at nite as well..it has helped a lot…thanks
