TW: Um, who lets a 9 year old fire an uzi?

A 9 year old girl accidently killed the range instructor when she lost control of the goddamn uzi she was firing.

I totally understand teaching your kids gun safety, particularly if you're a family that hunts. But who the hell thinks it's a good idea to give a 9 year old an automatic weapon?

  • All I could think was: that poor child will probably never get that image out of her head. I saw someone from the range on the news. He said they allow 5 year olds to fire weapons and 8 year olds to fire automatic weapons. I can't even wrap my head around that statement.

I can't imagine with having to live with that, especially at such a young age. I have zero respect for the parent/s who didn't think this was a bad idea.

  • Uzis are difficult for inexperienced adults to use. Handing one to a skinny 9 year old is stupid as hell. There is absolutely no reason that a child needs to handle an Uzi to learn gun safety. I feel awful for that poor little girl.

  • This makes me ragey. My H and I are gun owners. The kids will be taught gun safety at an appropriate age. They will not fire weapons at the range until they are responsible enough. There is no way in freaking hell they will lay a finger on an Uzi. I mean, WTAF?! That little girl is traumatized for life. Beyond traumatized. And a man lost his life. This makes me so fucking angry.
  • So now a man is dead and a child is traumatized, likely for life to some degree, because "'Merica, fuck yeah."

You do not need an Uzi for self defense, defense of home or for hunting. You should not, as an average citizen, be allowed to have an Uzi. Be you nine or ninety.

I feel comfortable going to the mattresses on that one.

I agree 100%. There is no need for an Uzi to be at public range at all. For what?! No. Just no. It's a military weapon and no one else needs access to it besides military. Period.
