Abdominal Pain :(

I'm currently 16 weeks with my first. For the last week to week and a half, I've had a lot of lower abdominal discomfort. It almost feels like I've done a tough ab workout. It's the worst when I have to or actually go to the bathroom. Basically it feels like painful, sore muscles. I've read about round ligament pain, but I get nervous about every new pain/feeling since it's all new. I have a dr. visit tomorrow and I'm probably overreacting but would love to hear others' thoughts & experience.

Re: Abdominal Pain :(

  • I'm 15 1/2 weeks and for the last week I've felt the same way; off and on pressure and cramps in my lower abdomen. No other problems so I'm trying to just say calm. Every one I've talked to said it's probably RLP.

  • I was having a similar feeling this morning, and I think it was poo pain- felt much better after going to the bathroom. That, or RLP.

If it's really painful and not just uncomfortable, call your doc.

  • I've had a lot of discomfort and pressure but the OB said it's all normal.

  • That's the thing -- it's hard for me to tell the difference. Would you say "pain" is unbearable?? I go to the doctor tomorrow so I can wait a day, I'd just like peace of mind lol! I'd say it's worse than menstrual cramps but not unbearable. And it's infrequent -- I don't feel it all day long. It comes in waves and then subsides to mild cramping or very dull ache.
  • It could be gas, constipation or RLP. We get a lot of general discomfort in our let abdomen. My RLP gets painful and the OB said it's normal. I recommend bringing it up with your OB tomorrow so that you can get comfort and reassurance from a professional.

  • I have been having the same pressure and cramps as well. I also had developed some shooting pains in my cervix which really alarmed me. As a result, I went to the ER and everything looked ok. I felt a lot better after going and getting checked out. You will feel a lot better after talking with your doctor.
  • sugahcookie01 That's exactly what I figured. Reading everyone's responses, plus looking at some other RLP posts has made me feel a lot better about what's happening. Like I said -- I easily overreact! Thanks for the help ;)

My understanding (though I've never been through it) is that the kind of pain associated with loss or horrible complications is unmistakable. Think cannot move/breathe without agony.

When I had my loss, those cramps were quite different than any pressure and discomfort I have had during this pregnancy. It's sounds cliche to say, but you'd likely know. They are distinct miserable cramps. I remember that night and I just knew it wasn't normal. I'm sure it isn't the same for everyone. I've had plenty of discomfort in the last week or so, but it has all been poop, RLP or gas related (which is usually find out later LOL). Good luck!

  • I had horrible left-sided, pretty localized pain on Friday.  I don't know what it was.  I felt like I couldn't move or breathe when it happened - I would compare it to a really bad charlie horse.

Anyway, it didn't last long (maybe three episodes in 2 minutes), then afterwards the area was a little sore/irritable to apply pressure to.  I also had some very mild lower abdominal cramping and lower back cramping afterward for about 30 mins or so.  No bleeding or anything like that.

I called my OB's on-call service and explained what was happening, but I didn't get a call back.  I'm guessing that was probably because it was fine and I was the very least of their problems for that night.  I've been fine since it happened.

I am chalking it up to RLP, or perhaps the teeny tiny cyst on my left ovary burst.  I just emailed my doctor to see what he thinks.  Long story short, I'm not going to worry about it unless he comes back tomorrow and tells me to start worrying!  I'm also sure that you are fine.  Sounds like stretching to me.  Keep us posted though!
  • Update: bladder infection :(
  • ugh that's no fun @loriann091.  Hope you feel better soon.

  • I am in the same exact boat !!!!
  • I feel the same way, sort of. I'm having low "cramps" nothing as bad as menstural cramps and just uncomfortable. And now I'm having lower back pain, I've noticed it's when I'm doing house work or working for my 12 hour shifts as well. I'm at high risk for preterm labor so I'm probably over thinking it all but I'm only 13w5d.
  • Hi, I'm new to the board,my name is Natalie :) I am 28 weeks and have horrible back and right groin pain. I went to the dr and they said it's a bladder infection and gave me one dose of antibiotics and sent me on my way. The pain is unbearable in my back and side. I can't walk, move, sleep. Seems really odd to have all that pain just for a uti. They don't think it's a kidney stone or kidney infection.

Odd place for an intro - on a thread from August.  But welcome and I'm sorry you don't feel well.
