my LO is almost 5 weeks. I still have 20 lbs to lose. My fingers still look like sausages. I am breastfeeding so I am still eating than normal. I feel ugly. I am scared that I won't be able to lose weight. Is anyone on the same boat?
Deep breath. I've got close to 40 extra pounds on me still, 2 weeks post partum. The weight is definitely not just falling off like it did after my first, but I'm also not totally stressed out and suffering from major baby blues this time. It took months to put the weight on, it may take months to come off. I haven't even been cleared to work out yet, so I'm not concerned. You just grew and birthed a person, cut yourself some slack, be realistic about losing the weight (hint, the celebrities on the covers of magazines are NOT realistic, unless you have access to a personal chef and trainer ) and enjoy your baby. After my first was born I got into better shape than before I was pregnant, it took time and work, but you can do it, it may just be longer than the 6 weeks celebrities take!
I've had this feeling but then tell myself it's still early and I haven't even had my pp appt yet. Also while BF I know I won't be able to cut calories to lose weight it really will b all about what I eat and toning. So I've started trying to eat better and not make a big deal about it yet Don't be so hard on yourself, like pp said your body has been through a lot!
Keep in mind most those celebrities get the fat sucked out too. It's hard to lose weight when you are not sleeping well. If your breastfeeding, there's a chance your body will hang on to that weight until you are done. It took 9 months to put on, it will take just as long to lose it.
The scale stopped moving for me last week. Since I've been cleared to lightly exercise I've started trying to get in walks when I can and have started tracking food again using Lose It! I also have a FitBit that I've started using again. This combo helped me lose 30ish pounds while DH was deployed last year.
Somehow I don't think I'll be able to fit into my skinny jeans by the fall, but maybe by late winter!
ETA: If you feel like you're having extra trouble losing weight, get your thyroid checked. I think a lot of people end up with postpartum thyroid issues. I have diagnosed and well controlled hypothyroidism and have already had labs done since delivering.
Scale stopped moving for me too so in trying to make healthy choices and lightly work out until I'm cleared next week. 18 lbs to go! I am hoping it's gone by the end of the year.
Thank you for this post OP... I have been feeling this way. I had my DS 3 weeks ago tomorrow and I understand our bodies have been through a lot and "it took 9 months for your belly to stretch to accommodate " so it's not going to go back overnight. I haven't even stepped on a scale and don't intend to until pp appointment. I have been eating healthy and going for small walks with baby. It just is depressing still wearing maternity clothes and feeling so blah about your body. I try not I focus on it and just keep eating healthy and drinking tons of water. Doesn't help that today I was asked by clerk at cvs that we always go to when I was due.
Think about it this way... It took your body 9 months to gain the weight, and it should take about the same amount of time to get back to normal. If you put yourself into a more comfortable range of understanding and change your expectations, it should help to get you into a better frame of mind. I have about 20 lbs to lose as well, but at least because this is my second, I knew what to expect of my body when it came to bouncing back. This is probably why I am feeling way less hard on myself than I did as a FTM. Take some time out for yourself. Get off the scale and just take it easy on yourself. Don't cut back on your food to lose weight, or you could lose your supply. Try to find a balance of good food and some time to be active, and give yourself some time. It will get there...
I'm only 2 weeks pp but I understand the frustration. Its also hard to get on your own schedule to feeling better and more "normal" when you have a newborn. Its not fair to assume it will all go away so quickly after birth. I am struggling with this as well. At the end of the day you have to remember how awesome your body is for growing that human and bringing LO into the world. You deserve recovery time from the marathon your body was put thru for 24/7 over those 9 months
Can we do a weekly weightloss check in for accountability??
A healthy choices check in would be better. So much of the way your body bounces back in these first two to three months is just genetics and you can't be held accountable for your genetics. Some women will walk out of the hospital in pp jeans. Many will hold onto 10-20 or more for months. The "fourth trimester" idea applies to mothers too. You just pumped vital vitamins and minerals into baby building and your body needs to recover and restore stores of those vitamins and minerals before you consider restricting your diet. Recovery is more than just what you see on the outside.
For the record, I dropped 20 in the first week and if this is anything like my first, I'll lose 5 more over the next six months, and won't drop the last 15 until I start making better food choices (I did really well with the paleo diet when ds1 was 6 months). I just eat too much junk and carbs when left to comfort eating which is what all of third tri and pp is for me.
I actually had given up losing the last 10 last time and started buying bigger pants, so at least I can wear fat pants now and have been able to put away the maternity jeans. I'm nowhere near pp jeans. It might not be a bad idea for you to accept that you might be here for a while and, when you feel like your uterus has has gone back down so your stomach is stable, go buy some jeans that fit you now. Cheap ones that you don't have to plan to be in for a long time, and don't worry about what number is one them. Just realize they will be temporary, but you won't look like a deflated pregnant chick, you'll just look plumper than normal.
I gained 27 overall and have lost 16 so far, with 11 more to go. I'll be 2 weeks pp tomorrow.
I'd love to lose those last 11, but I seem to be loving chocolate chip cookies and brownies just a bit more, so I doubt any more weight will come off until I'm able to exercise.

I like the healthy choices check in better. Also - can't it wait a month or so?? I think it's a little early to be stressing about weight loss when we still have people on this board who are still pregnant and most of those who have had babies haven't even been cleared for exercise yet.
I am having more cravings now than when I was pregnant. Sweets are the only things I want to eat! I bet I could lose weight more easily if I could manage to stop shoving handfuls of chocolate chips into my mouth every time I go into the kitchen.

Same! I had my husband bake me brownies 3 nights in a row and in the days since have been eating these large 490 calorie chocolate chip cookies my best friend mailed to me.
Yeah, those last 11 are staying exactly where they are.

Haha thank you!! I know it's irrational, but I was like man! I'm so far behind! I still have the baby inside me!! Everyone is going to be so far ahead of me! (Although that's been the case this whole pregnancy.. stupid 31 Aug EDD..)
I'm 2 weeks PP and I have 20 to lose too after gaining 35. I'm mostly BFing & haven't been cleared to exercise after my c section. Hoping to start taking short walks with baby thus week. My eating has been fine, I'm too tired to crave anything sweet or fatty. The only thing I'm craving is sleep! I'd love to fit back into my clothes by springtime. That's my goal.
I'm 4 weeks PP and still have 20 pounds to lose, I've lost 20 already. I'm just happy to be down that much considering my exercise lately has been either short walks around the block and carrying LO up and downstairs. Got cleared to resume my normal work out routine at my appt. yesterday so going to be reacquainting myself with my treadmill!

I'm 31.
I think that means I've got another 30 years to lose this last few pounds.
