Diarrhea

Hi everyone,
I'm so sorry first of all if this is TMI for any of you reading this. I'm actually kind of embarrassed to start this topic.

I'm 6 weeks 3 days pregnant, and I just had diarrhea. It actually hurt because it was burning me as if it was caused by hot peppers or spicy foods. (It wasn't.)

I don't know if it's caused by the breakfast I ate this morning that is different from what I normally eat, or if it is somehow caused by my pregnancy? But I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any insight into how concerned I should be. Hope it's not anything to worry about.

Thanks for any input. And sorry for the grossness.

  • Hmm I haven't *heard * of this being a pregnancy symptom, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. But, pregnant or not, I wouldn't worry about one episode of diarrhea. Sometimes your body doesn't agree with something you ate, and shit happens.

I would only get worried if you develop severe abdominal pain and/or fever with it, or if it goes on more than 24-48 hours and you start to get dehydrated. If that happens call your doc. Also call your doc if you're on antibiotics.

Until then try to relax and hold off medicated yourself with anything unless you have talked to your OB first. Honestly though, as a general rule of thumb, you shouldn't medicate diarrhea unless it is persistent because for example, immodium can make infectious diarrhea worse.

    Hope you feel better

It can be. Some people get super constipated, or your digestive system does the opposite and speeds up.

  • Don't be embarrassed. Pregnancy and delivery help you realize modesty and embarrassment are now a thing of the past! =) This actually just started for me yesterday after dinner. SUCKS!

  • Yep, unfortunately this is "normal" for me during pregnancy. It's happened every time I've been pregnant and usually lasts the first few weeks

  • I'm dealing with it too. I'll be constipated for 2-3 days then it all comes out at once :(

I had horrible diarrhea with my first baby for about 2 weeks. It was accompanied by mild nausea and my OB said it was my body's version of morning sickness. She also said it's safe as long as I stay hydrated and was still passing urine throughout the day! Hope gets better soon!
  • You're not alone...ugh. After 24hrs it has somewhat subsided...I dunno what's worse-constipation or (almost) shitting my pants...
