Newbie question

Hi all. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have always been a fitness nut. If time wasn't a factor, my workouts of choice would be swimming and biking. Unfortunately, due to having a toddler and full-time job, I'm lucky to squeeze in 3 quick workouts per week at home. I lost all of my baby weight from DS#1, plus another 10lbs, by doing Crossfit workouts and eating paleo.

He's 13 months now and I am 5 weeks pregnant with baby #2. I'm already too pukey and too dizzy to do any of my old workouts. Dead lifts? Burpees? Flip turns in the pool? Forget it. I had severe morning sickness for 18 weeks last time, and I think the same thing is about to happen again. When all you can tolerate is Gatorade and chicken broth, AFTER taking your nausea medicine, then getting picky about carb content and paleo-friendly foods just isn't going to happen.

Does anyone have recommendations for workout videos at home, or paleo modifications, or other ways I can even attempt to maintain my previous fitness in the midst of the barf-fest that is about to happen?

Re: Newbie question

  • I tried reformer pilates at the start of my last pregnancy, but I got too dizzy to continue. I haven't done anything yet this time. I am climbing the walls because I want to workout, but I haven't found one I can do without leaving myself dizzy. It's not dehydration (yet). It's room-spinning.

My nausea was pretty severe last time. It took 3 meds for me to keep down fluids, and it lasted until 18 weeks pregnant. My weekly belly pics kept getting smaller until around 15 weeks.

  • I have mild nausea at 6 weeks. I've been dragging myself to the gym regardless and, bizarrely, it seems to help a bit. I do notice that, after I shower, I usually need to just sit for 5-10mn to calm down my stomach and refocus myself so I'm not dizzy. If I didn't have preggo lady brain, I'd bring something like chocolate milk for afterward.
