Prenatals Advice

I am currently taking "Natures Choice" prenatals. My sickness is finally starting to get better, as I am not sick all day long. Just seems to be morning and night now. Although, when I take my prenatals I ALWAYS puke. Any of you moms to be with sensitive tummies have luck with any certain brand ?

  • Sorry, no, they all taste like crap to me, I've tried a few different kinds, including 2 different prescribed vitamins, and they are all nasty going down and then 10 min later they are even worse coming back up. I've just learned to take it right before I eat a meal and try to drink a lot (lately chocolate milk to help keep it down) and take a tums as soon as I finish eating to keep the indigestion to a minimum, because again, they ALL taste like crap to me.   • I agree with @stepherty , the gummies are the only things that work for me right now. They don't contain iron, but my doc said that's fine for now. I'm going to try going back to the pills next week

  • I take Rainbow light, I switched to taking it right before bed because I had MS and I don't know if the prenatal was helping that. I also take Nordic Naturals DHA.

  • The gummies always made me sick (way too sweet) so I take the Target brand but it really doesn't make a difference if your doing pills. The biggest thing to help me was to take them during a meal though.
  • I do natures bounty and then an extra folic acid and it does make me gag and feel a little sick but it's not so bad. I second everyone with the taking it with food helps.
  • I take my prenatal at bedtime. I'll have a yogurt or something, and then take my vitamin and go to bed. If I take them in the morning I'm nauseated all day
  • I take mine with a glass of water at night right before bed.  So if there's any nausea I sleep through it.  I'd try the gummies (their source of vitamin A isn't optimal) but they stay down for most people! Mine are the ones with DHA, maybe Nature's Source?

  • I also take mine with my bedtime snack and then lay down so I don't puke. I tried the gummies with my first pregnancy but they turned into a major aversion and I would get sick just thinking about them. The thought of them still makes me want to puke. You might try them though.
  • I also take mine at night before I go to bed and it doesn't make me nauseous.

  • I take a CVS brand. I always take it with food because even not pregnant I have troubles taking pills on an empty stomach. With the ms I didn't want to risk it

  • I ordered the Vitamin Code Raw Prenatals from Amazon.  You have to take THREE a day...and they're stupid expensive...BUT ... I can take them on an empty stomach, and they tend to make me feel better.  I have emetophobia (the fear of vomming) and so it was really important to me to get a prenatal that doesn't make me want to hurl.  They have been really good so far.

    This. And I take 2 Flintstone gummies and 8mcg of folic acid per my OB since most prenatals make me sick.

  • I do CVS brand gummies right now and will start my prescription pills when I can stomach them.  There's a brand called Belly Bar that has chewables that are pretty good, too.  I found them on Amazon last time and took them through the first tri, only this time I got lazy and just picked up gummies at the store.  If gummies are too sweet for you, they are a good option.  Taste kind of like the hard Filntstones vitamins.

    Did the doc give you an idea of when to start including an iron supplement? I take the same gummies and have been nervous about adding iron while I am so sick. It's on my list of things to ask the doc.
  • I also take rainbow light! They never make me sick, you just have to take a separate dha pill along with it. Plus they are very cheap! My doctor even looked over them and said they were a good pick (Besides not containing dha). I love them bc you don't have to have a meal to take them and I just take mine before I go to sleep. When I ran out of my first bottle I tried taking a similiac brand sample one and I threw up instantly. The next day I went and bought another bottle of rainbow light. You can buy them at target and they are also vegan and free of aton of other things.
  • I've had great success with the Rainbow Light Prental One, along with Spectrum DHA. I take them first thing in the morning, with no issues, and I have a VERY sensitive stomach. My boss has taken them with all three of her children, through nursing, and never had issues with them.
  • I have much better luck when I take it at night, right before bed. Otherwise, the nausea and gagging is ten times worse during the day.

    Ive been told 2 Flintstones vitamins equals a prenatal. Maybe that'll help if chewing a vitamin seems better than swallowing a vitamin whole.
  • Bedtime here for me too...I have gotten a little nauseous but sleep through it as others have said.

    Even a regular vitamin when not pregnant will make me sick if I take it in the am!

  • I've been taking the gummies at night before bed & that has been working well. I discovered them last pregnancy since normally when not pregnant I have a hard time swallowing big pills!
  • I take a prescription version of pre-natal plus. Right before bed I take that, my DHA, and my unisom. So far I've had no troubles, on the rare occasions I do get a little nauseous, I get up and have a small snack.

  • Oh and the DHA I have is strawberry flavored Nordic Natural so I don't burp up anything fishy. :)

  • I love the vitafusion gummy ones... They taste great and I take them first thing in the am with no problems. I was really worried about getting sick with them because i have problems with regular vitamins. I will have to start taking iron though as I didn't know they didn't contain iron. Glad I read this. Thanks ladies
