Holy stomach pain? UPDATE in comments.

In the last week, I've been having the WORST pain in my upper abdomen. It starts about a hand length down from my sternum and radiates to both the left and the right. My bump isn't up that high, so it isn't related to any ligament pain. It seems to start after I eat anything. Nothing makes it better. Bland food, tums, extra water, nothing. It's a constant ache, burning and stabbing type feeling, and it really hurts my entire stomach (baby bump included) hurts when I walk. Anyone else having any of these symptoms??

Re: Holy stomach pain? UPDATE in comments.

  • It sounds like your gallbladder. You should probably get it checked out.

  • I agree, sounds like gall bladder. I would call your doctor in the AM

  • That's what I was thinking. Debating between calling my OB or my primary?
  • @elleswarth not even joking this started for me Friday night, I didn't sleep at all. The pain is non stop I was about to post but saw this first. It hurts from top of abdomen to very bottom horrible pains while walking, sitting, eating anything I do it hurts horribly. I called dr on Saturday morning since it was so bad but she said as long as baby is moving it should be okay maybe just a stomach bug, there is NO WAY this is a stomach bug I can hardly move :/

Sorry you guys are having similar issues, although it's a little relieving to know that I'm not the only one. The gurgling and bubbling is terrible, and the pain radiation is bizarre. I'm ok in the morning when I wake up, but as soon as I had some cereal, boom. Day ruined. Definitely calling the doctor in the AM, let me know what you guys hear!
  • Hell, I'd go to the ER now. Didn't someone else on this board have to have their gallbladder out during this pregnancy?

  • I know a few women who have needed their galbladder removed during pregnancy. I'm not sure if pregnancy can bring it on or just exacerbate existing problems, but you definitely wouldn't be the first woman to need it out.

Can you go to a specialist? Or do you need a referral? Because I'd be going to a gastroenterologist stat with my Obgyn on backup for any pregnancy related questions.

  • I'm at my OB right now, but if something is wrong, I would have to see a general surgeon, as GI doctors don't do lap chole surgery, they just do EGD's and colonoscopies. Will let you all know what the verdict is.
  • Labs drawn today to check bile and liver enzymes, ultrasound to rule out gallstones/gallbladder anything tomorrow at 1:30. Was hoping to get it over with today but I had already eaten, and you can't eat within 6 hours of the ultrasound. Boo. Labs will take a few days to get back. Hoping by the end of the week we'll have some definitive answers.
  • I hope you're ok!

  • I ended up in the ER with the exact same pain. Fortunately, I didn't have any gallstones. I just had a nasty stomach flu and infection. Hope you feel better soon!

  • *lurking from F15* I had similar symptoms when I was 10w and ended up having my GB removed 2 weeks ago. If it ends up being that and you need it removed, feel free to PM if you have any questions :)

FX that it is nothing serious. Hang in there!!

  • Thank you all! I'm so hungry and thirsty, no eating or drinking 6 hours before... Should have woken up early to have a little something. The pain is just as bad without food, and I experience the worst pain when I walk. I'm worried that if it isn't my gallbladder, I have no clue what it could be. I'm a nurse and work 12 hours on my feet constantly walking room to room and all over the hospital. I can't work with this pain. Here's to hoping we can figure it out! Thanks for the well wishes.
  • Let us know how it goes!

  • Good luck keep us posted. I went in Monday after the weekend of pain and craziness and they think mine is gastrointestinal infection virus/stomach bug.... Nothing they can really do except let it run it's course. I hope your ok

  • I was waiting for my primary to call me with my results since he can access our hospitals charts at home and my OB is slow to respond to anything. Apparently my results from this are normal, but he was explaining that just because there aren't gallstones, doesn't mean there isn't inflammation. He said the only definitive way to figure it out is to have a HIDA scan, which isnt safe during pregnancy. He was upset he didn't have more answers for me, and said if it gets worse, go to ER. Don't know what I'm going to do for work with no answers.
  • Hopefully it's just gastric or a virus and nothing worse. I'm sorry doc couldn't give you answers. Fx you get well soon esp as your pregnant.

I had similar last august and was hospitalised for a week. They couldn't find anything to cause the severe pain and burning sensation even after much testing but it did clear up eventually. Pain was so bad I had to have morphine! I was actually bleeding bright red from my back end! Can't explain how painful it was. Felt like my liver/stomach/bowel were on fire.
To this day I have no clue what caused it. Every time I get bad gas pains/heartburn I panic it's returning!
