Going out of town - what to do with dipes?

We are headed out of town Thursday evening and I won't have time to do a full normal diaper wash for the diapers LO will use on Thursday before leaving. EOD tomorrow (Wednesday) would be my normal every other wash day. So what should I do with the dirty diapers before leaving. (We do disposies when traveling so I can't take them with me.)

  • I voted the first option.  This what we're going to be doing Thursday night (we're leaving Friday morning).  We'll wash and dry his cloth diapers Thursday evening and he'll probably use a disposable or two before bed.  We use disposables overnight, so we won't have dirty cloth in the morning.
This is the sort of situation disposables are meant for.

*We're taking cloth with us, but if we had to use it while we were traveling there, it would've filled all of our carry-on luggage.
  • How long are we talking?

    Until Monday

  • am I the only person who brings dirty ON diapers with me when I travel?

Sorry, I didn't completely understand the situation so didn't vote

  • I have the same situation next week. I plan to put her in a sposie (I'm getting honest) for bed then washing whatever is dirty, it should work out to a full load but of not, I'll just run a small load. I font want to bother anyone else with my diaper laundry while I'm on vacation.

I like to start with a fresh stash when we travel. For us, a dirty ON fitted would be pretty toxic -- they need to soak, and even if there is time to soak and spin it out in the morning before travel, it's probably still wet and not traveling in something breathable for the duration of the trip, which is often 12+ hours. And, a couple of times we have come pretty close to going over our weight limit, so diapers need to be dry before they get packed. Since laundry setups can be so variable when we travel, I often revert to a snappi'd prefold with some kind of hemp doubler for ON. It's not as bulletproof as a fitted, but much easier to deal with from a laundry standpoint.
  • I chose the first option. I always wash all dirty diapers the day before we go, or that morning, and use disposables instead. I like to come home to a completely clean stash.

  • Thanks for all of your responses. I was leaning toward the first option, but I really do dislike disposables and he would be in them for a full extra day while not on vacation :(

The reason we aren't using cloth is that the friend that got us started on CDing mentioned that she used disposables when on trips and DH liked that aspect. Plus our stash is mainly BG pockets which take up a lot of room in the suitcase, so when we are limited on space bringing cloth diapers isn't an option.

I think that if your MIL is good at following laundry directions than go with that. You could do the prewash and then all she needs to do is run a regular wash/extra rinse and either line or dryer dry. But overall, just going with sposies seems like less of a headache, especially if you need to buy them for your trip anyway.
I would think if I had it written down and only leave the CD detergent out, she should be fine to do it.

  • If you're already using sposies then just start using them earlier, move your wash day back a day, or wash a smaller load before you go. Do whatever you would rather do.
We normally leave in the morning for trips, so then I can complete washing after LO has gone to bed and he is only in sposies ON at home. This time we are leaving on a red-eye flight after I get off work, which is kind of driving me crazy. I didn't know if doing a quick wash on a small load before leaving (and hanging them to dry) then doing the full wash routine when I got home would be an acceptable option or if I would be causing issues in those diapers later on. Since my wash time is tonight anyways, I will not mess up my schedule and just use sposies starting ON tonight.
