Pregnant after a Loss

Possible New Job, question on how to go about pregnancy

So awhile back I applied for a job as a 911 dispatcher, the thing is they only hire twice a year and said to call in September to check on my application. It's 12 hour shifts rotating 3 days on 4 days off and vice versa. Well I got a call today for an interview in about 2 weeks. I'm not really sure how to go about the whole pregnancy and high-risk thing. By then I'll know how my appointments are going to be set up whether it be once a month or once a week but how do I tell them that? I've wanted this job so bad for a long time because it pays well, benefits well, and it's in my degree field, it's also not as physically demanding as my job now. I guess I'm just conflicted because even though they aren't allowed to discriminate against pregnant women, most places do.

Re: Possible New Job, question on how to go about pregnancy

  • First, I would call my doctor and figure out the timing of appointments etc. I would not mention anything about being pregnant in the first (few?) interviews. I would only mention it once it is clear you are getting an offer.

  • I would not mention it this early. They are not allowed to ask and they are not allowed to discriminate but so many people do! So I'd say nothing.

  • I would just schedule my doctors appts around my work schedule. Sure, you may be at the doctor Tuesday one week and Thursday the next week, but at least you can schedule around the new job and not have to worry about it.
I'd say nothing at the job until you've got the job and starting to obviously show. :)
  • I wouldn't mention it that early, as others have said...they shouldn't use it in their hiring criteria, but sometimes it happens unfortunately. Good luck!

  • I'd say nothing. It sadly can really hurt a job choice especially if it is a draw between you and someone else. It shouldn't but I've seen it happen. Hope you get the job! :) Sounds like a great job!

  • Thanks ladies. I brought this up to one of my managers I have now and he basically said damned if I do tell damned if I don't. We'll see how noticeably pregnant I am by then, I'll be 13 weeks so probably not much other than a bloat.
