Trouble TTC

When to call RE if I think my cycle is a bust?

Hello ladies,

So I'm looking for guidance here. I'm currently 12 dpo and I'm supposed to go in on Friday morning for my beta, but I've already started spotting. This was my first cycle in nearly 2 years that I ovulated, so we were kind of hopeful, but knowing my luck... (sorry for the self pity party) I feel like I should cancel my beta, being as I'll surely have AF by Friday morning. This is my first cycle with our RE so I have no idea. Next cycle will be unmedicated because I need tests/baselines etc.....

On a different note, I started telling a few select friends about our troubles and it basically went in one ear and out the other, completely side stepping it and ignoring what I had just confided. I LOVE people.

Re: When to call RE if I think my cycle is a bust?

  • I normally call when I start my period, but I would probably call today about the spotting.  I'm sorry about your friends!

  • You may want to check with your RE to find out what their policy is on this.  My RE allows me to just call in and report CD1 but I know others are required to do a beta even if they've already started AF.

I'm sorry your friends weren't supportive.  I've told nearly everyone in my life about what we're going through and I have seen that some people care and want to know more while others just seem uncomfortable and want to move on.  I think some of my friends who've already had kids felt guilty about it somehow and that's why they avoided talking to me about it.  There's really no way of knowing who will be there for you and who would rather not talk about it until you tell them.  I have had my feelings hurt more than a few times, but I am happy I told people because at least it stopped them from asking me when we were going to try.

    IUI #3 on 8/22/2014 100 mg Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI (53 million sperm, 2 dominant follies)= BFP MMC @ 7weeks

  • I would call. My dr doesn't require a beta but I know some do. My RE will count it as CD1 as soon as I start "bright red spotting."

Sorry your friends' reactions sucked. They are kinda damned if they do...damned if they don't. If they try to be comforting, they often say the wrong things. If they don't try at all, they look like assholes. I just try and remind myself that it's hard for them to know what to say. And honestly, I'm not even sure what I want to hear! That's why I'm so glad this board exists. We all get it.

  • Sorry this cycle didn't work for you.

People that have not struggled with fertility issues themselves can sometimes have a really hard time grasping how painful it is.

  • So sorry for your spotting. :(

Our RE requires a beta even if I have a full-blown period as a precaution before starting another medicated cycle, since it is possible to have different types of a positive test that need to be taken care of (or even a healthy pregnancy, once in a blue moon) before taking any more fertility meds. That said, if my insurance didn't cover it, I'd be pretty unhappy about it.

So sorry your friends didn't seem to realize what a big deal this was for you. Perhaps impatient women they knew had gotten their panties in a bunch about not conceiving the first couple months and so now they are a little jaded? :)
