Is that a contraction?

I am 39+4 and had a membrane sweep done this morning. I had a bit of cramping throughout the day and now this evening I have had 1 or 2 instances of a very rock hard belly. It's not painful and I don think its baby moving. Could that be a contraction. FTM and I have no idea if I will know the difference between movement and contractions. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

When they start getting more intense and regular you'll know it's a contraction. Until then, just roll with it. If it isn't painful then you still have a while to wait whether it was a real contraction or not.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks. I've been having them for 2 months, everyday!! It could be a sign labor is coming soon, or it could not.

Not necessarily. With DS, I went to the hospital at 5-1-1, was dilated to 6cm when I got to my room, and the contractions were just starting to get a bit uncomfortable. DS was born about 3.5 hrs later. The contractions didn't "hurt" until about 1.5-2 hrs before he was born.

The day before my first was born I sat at work all day thinking that the baby was just stretching...come to find out I was having contractions all day and didn't know it. I expected them to hurt but they didn't. My belly would just get really hard and I would be uncomfortable for a minute and that would be it. My cube mates and I actually joked around about how I was in labor and didn't know it...and the next morning when my water broke while I was getting ready for work I found out that it wasn't a joke after all.

Thanks for the comments all. Lost large chunk of mucus plug this am (24 hours after sweep). Fingers crossed that labour is coming soon.

My last labour was 4 years ago, so I'm feeling a little fuzzy on the details, but I remember the real contractions feeling different....a little more regular and I felt them lower, almost like a firm period cramp that lasted a minute and increased in intensity.

Usually, if you have to ask then it's not real. Trust, when shit gets real you won't be asking "is this a contraction?". You'll know!

Ditto. Everyone kept telling me I would know when it was "real" and not to come in until I couldn't talk/walk through contractions. In the end, what spurred me to go to the hospital wasn't the intensity of my contractions but the fact that I started puking and bleeding. I was at an 8 when I checked in, and had DS a few hours later. Contractions didn't REALLY hurt until after they broke my water for me, a little less than an hour before he was born.
