Toddler Bedtime again

So I posted here a few months ago because my 21 month old DD screams at bedtime. I got some GREAT advice and moved up her bedtime (Specifically, I recall @Ctgirl30 being super helpful.)  Well...things were good for a while, and then it started in again. But now she outstretches her arms and cries, "Mama, too?!!" It's HEARTBREAKING. Am I a sap? I asked a nurse practitioner/mom friend of mine for her thoughts, and she felt at this age to leave her like that would make her feel abandoned. But I tried staying with her, rubbing her back...I had to stay in there for 45 min the other night. It's ridic! Thoughts?

  • @uconnhuskie007 HI MAMA! I did not see that thread...I came on and quickly clicked "New Discussion" out of desperation...But I know you're right. I can be SUCH a sap though...like your siggy pic...need that right now!

  • Yes I have a routine, but let me tell you...she won't even sit on my lap in the rocking chair to hear books. She wants to sit on her area rug, across from me, not on my lap. I think it's her way of trying to stop the inevitable. She'll even say, "No nigh nigh".  I did CIO at 6 mos...had no idea that would happen several more times!!!!! Thanks ladies.
  • I went through a similar situation with DD at about the same age. I dug my heels in and didn't give in to her. I would put her to bed, close her door and wait. Within 30 seconds she was screaming for me. Pleading. It broke my heart. But I knew she was fine and this was a "thing" she was going through. So I would go back in, tuck her back in, tell her goodnight, walk out and close the door again. I would repeat the same exact thing every single time she screamed. (I didn't let her cry it out because I had DS in the next room sleeping and didn't want him up, as well). We would do this over and over and over. Sometimes I think I went back into her room 50 times. Eventually, she would give up and just calm down and go to sleep. It could take up to an hour, sometimes longer! This went on for 6 MONTHS. It was pure hell and really tested my patience. But I never gave in. Now all is well and I just say goodnight and close her door and she goes to sleep. I'm usually a bit of a pushover but when it comes to sleep I do not mess around.
  • @uconnhuskie007 she DID fall asleep, after ten minutes of SCREAMING. It's like 10 minutes of screaming vs rubbing her back for 45 minutes...I mean I feel SO BAD she's screaming but it's like, DAMN!!!!
  • I am also a coddler, and it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get my almost 18 mo DS to sleep. And I am in there the entire time.
