Seeking advice!

I am a first time pregger, in my 5th week. I'm a teacher, but I also karaoke DJ on Friday and Saturday nights in a very smoky bar....I plan to quit in the near future, but it's an extra $800 cash a month plus tips, and all that goes to savings. I always feel like I have smoked a whole pack when I come home even though I don't smoke....obviously this isn't a great thing. What should I do? I was thinking another month or two but is it really that unsafe twice a week for about 5 hours at a time? Again I do plan to quit soon, but how soon? We could use that money for, you know...the baby!

  • I'm not sure how you are set up on stage but if you usually stay in one spot what about keeping a fan behind you to help keep some smoke away. I'm not sure if that would help.

  • Fan is great idea. I've started being adamant about people keeping it away from me but I'm not " out of the closet" yet. Lol I plan to put a sign by me when I'm "out". Mask wouldn't work because I have to talk and sing lol but I definitely considered it.

  • I'll be honest, that is a risk I would not be willing to take. My MIL is a smoker and despite our very vocal disdain for a habit she refuses to give up, she occasionally lights up in front of us (her house, so can't really tell her not to). But, when I was pregnant, the day we went over to tell her, DH and I agreed that the second she lit up, we would leave unless she stopped. Even all the way across the room, we told her we were leaving when she lit up (she put it out). Secondhand smoke isn't something to mess around with.

  • The fan sounds somewhat promising, but personally the smoke exposure would make me really REALLY uncomfortable and I'd give it a month more at the very most!
