Pregnant after a Loss

So, I have a close friend who offered to throw us a baby "sprinkle," which I understand to be a toned down version of a shower. I have an 8 year old son, and have always thought that a shower for any children after the first was tacky and gift grabby. My friend's view is that it's been so long between pregnancies that it wouldn't be tacky, and that being a sprinkle instead, there wouldn't be any big gifts, just smaller things like clothes, bottles, nuks, etc. Curious what the general opinion is on this. I told her I had to think about it because I'm still not sure how I feel about this.
(I have a cousin who has a 3 year old and is about to pop with baby #2, and just had a BIG shower asking for all sorts of large gifts, and I thought it was horribly tacky of her; so I kind of feel like this is not far from that. Thoughts?)

Totally ok, I would agree to the "sprinkle" regardless of how many years between babies

Given the gap between babies, I think it's ok to do

  • In my family every baby gets a shower! I had a small diaper shower with my family for DS2 and it was great! Especially since I was on bed rest at the time it really gave me something to look forward to! I hope you have a fun time with it!

  • I'd be okay with it just because it has been so long between babies and if you have girl you'll need all new stuff anyway! I say enjoy it :)

  • Given the age difference I'm less troubled by it. How many people and what people - for example close family and "best" friends = totally ok. Inviting your coworkers and that girl you were sort of friends with in college = not cool. Basically I think as long as it is an intimate gathering of your closest friends and family it's 100% wonderful.

  • I think it's totally fine!  Every baby deserves to be celebrated :) And it isn't grabby - you didn't demand the gifts, the sprinkle was a sweet idea from a close friend.  Enjoy your party!
