Am I starving my baby?

So, I feel pretty confident in how we feed DS2. He's 7m old, and we've been doing BLW since he hit 6m.

Daycare provider keeps making comments about how she thinks he's hungry: That maybe we should bring in more food.

I bring in 4 3oz bottles of BM, a meal-sized portion of something (waffle or veggies or something) and a snack (puffs, mum mums). So, all this for 8hrs. She thinks he needs another "meal" during the day. I'm not quite sure what makes her think he's hungry - every time I call, he's sleeping well and playing well and very happy. He's 20lbs and wearing 18m clothes, so my breast milk is obviously doing a good job.

On weekends, he eats maybe once during the day and dinner.

The 3oz bottles aren't an issue because he never drinks more than 3oz, even if we offer more.

Sorry this is so long. I'm sick and darn PP AF and stress of first week back to work - maybe I'm just being too sensitive?

I agree with @Paddyb. If he is not acting hungry and happy why do you need to provide more? The amount of BM in your bottles sounds about right for that age and if he is not finishing a bottle then he is getting enough. I would maybe send another snack but not more BM.

  • Thanks everyone - I know I know all this stuff, but I definitely needed to be reassured!

  • We only did 1 meal a day until about 9 months. I think what you're doing is plenty!

  • My daughter didn't eat very much food when she was 7 months but she was good a chubby from bm.  I followed her lead with food and never tried to force more food.  Some people were surprised at how little she ate - maybe because their kids ate more food when they were babies?  Every kid is different.

I guess you could send some back up snacks, so that they could offer more on days that he is extra hungry?  An extra box of cereal or something that is non-perishable.
