Monday Morning Joe

Re: Monday Morning Joe

  • Wait is gnocci that easy to make? Normal plain gnocci?
Yeah.  The most time consuming part is shaping it.  But I think I've seen people put it in a pastry tube and cut pieces off into the boiling water.  It obviously takes a long time if you roll each piece with a fork or one of those little gnocchi board.

  • Even easier MK, use your leftover garlic mashed potatoes, and just add flour till it's dough.

I need to do this.  Oh wait, my husband can't eat mashed potatoes.

    Cholesterol can suck it.

  • My garlic mashed potatoes?
Anyone's garlic mashed potatoes I suppose.  I was just thinking you like to reuse stuff and save.  So make garlic mashed potatoes with dinner one night, then use leftovers to make gnocchi.

  • What can I put in the gnocchi instead of egg?
I would say skip it altogether.  Gnocchi is basically pasta and a lot of pastas don't have egg.  Maybe add a little oil to make up for the fat the egg adds.
  • Water looks better at the beach. Lunch break!
You whore.  You really live/work that close to the beach?

My office is probably 500 yards from the water.  Its awesome on one hand, but horribly a tease sometimes too. I don't like seeing boats and water and not being able to take advantage, it kills me.

  • Our beach is more like toilet water than bath water.  With floaters.  I'll take a Mexican beach any day though.  Especially if it comes with a cabana boy.  Aaaahhhhhh.

  • Its ok TJ - if you felt how nice and not warm the new england water is - you'd probably go running away pretty fast.  This is me assuming your beach has bath water type water - like in Mexico.  Ours is more like icing a sprained ankle, all over your body.

Make pumpkin bread. Or pumpkin gnocchi. Or pumpkin pie. Or pumpkin custard. Or freeze it in an ice cube tray for lots of pumpkin spice coffee. Ooh, pumpkin ice cream.

Do you have a pumpkin gnocchi recipe? That sounds interesting.
Not really. Just put te pumpkin in a mixer, add in an egg, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Then add in flour till it just makes a dough. Maybe a cup and a half? Then roll, cut, boil, and sauté in safe brown butter. OMG. I want this now.

Is that sage brown butter? Because that would be delicious.

Haha, yes, I suppose sage brown butter would be tastier than safe brown butter.

  • You cook butter in a skillet until it starts to turn brown, but before it burns.  Adding some sage leaves will infuse the sage flavor into the butter and it will taste like thanksgiving in your mouth.
