What do you plan to do with your maternity clothes after baby comes?

I'm considering consignment and wondered what others were thinking. Also, if you have any experiences with consignment, please share!

  • We are considering a 4th still so I'll store them just in case.  If we decided we are done then we'll have a garage sale with them and all the baby stuff that we won't be needing anymore.
  • Loading the player...
  • Keep wearing some of them for a short time after the baby is born, then I'll probably hang onto them. This is our last, but I think I hold them for a bit just in case lol.

I voted "keep for next time" (we're still deciding if there will be a baby #3), but some I'll keep wearing. I have some shirts that are "maternity/nursing", and a lot of what I bought either doesn't look really maternity-ish or isn't even maternity just regular shirts that are longer & stretchy.

  • I will continue to wear mine for a little while after.  Then I plan to hand them to my sister.  She's planning to have another soon.  This is the last one for us.
  • I will hold onto mine until someone else I know gets knocked up.   Cousin, SIL, sister,  whatever.   :)

some of my clothes came from my sister,  so I imagine we'll just keep passing them around to whoever needs them.

  • I'll hang onto them for a little while, but give them to my first friend who gets pregnant if they want them.

I'm done after this baby (unless DH wants to get a surrogate or adopt), so I'll give them away.  My sister is going through IVF in the fall, so I really want to be able to pass them on to her (but she has a lot of factors working against her).  Fingers crossed for my sister!

After DS1, I washed them and put them away in storage.  Thankfully, I was pregnant pretty much during the same season so it worked out well.

  • I definitely plan on keeping mine, since this is our first child and we hope to have more. I also have several friends in my peer group l, some who I know are trying and some who will be in the next couple years, so I'll probably Lon them out if I'm not using them.
@mb314 - I really hope IVF goes well for your sis!!!
  • I'll give my sister's back to her, continue wearing some then keep/store some for the next round and consign the rest. Anything left threadbare or whatnot I'll chop up to use as garage rags.
There are several things that I bought from consignment sales/ were gifted to me that don't fit at all/ nms. If my sister wants to give them a try, great. If not, I'll consign.
  • I voted give them to a friend or family member. After my first pregnancy I loaned some to a friend (big mistake, she stretched a lot of stuff out, and now I can't wear them). And then I loaned them to my sister. My sister and I carried very similarly not getting a huge big belly, because we both are tall with long torsos. However we have different styles (& professions therefore dress codes), so when she gave me all my stuff back for this pregnancy + all of her stuff, there's quite a few things of hers I won't wear. After this pregnancy I *may* loan a couple items out to a friend, but most of it I'll box up & give to my sister. I know she'll likely have another in at least 2-3 years.

This baby may be my last, so I won't need any of it back. If we have a third child, it will certainly be down the road, in 5-6 years. IUD for me baby! I have some super skinny maternity jeans from H&M that I know are not my sister's style. Considering they are in style now, and may not be in a few years, I'll probably try to consign those.

I keep saying that if we win the lotto by Nov then I'll TTC next year in the winter... so if that happens I am keeping them.
If not then I will donate them to someone in need.

  • I voted to keep them for next time. I actually haven't bought too many maternity clothes and the ones I have are mostly from Target and Old Navy so I don't think I would get much for them if I sold them. I do have a pair of shorts that still have the tags that I may try to sell though.
  • Keep them for next time and still wear them. I am obsessed with the maternity t-shirts.
  • I plan in keeping mine! I don't plan on having another baby for another 5 or so years, but I would rather hang onto mine!

  • I kept my maternity clothes last time and good thing because this baby is due one day before my last kiddo. So all my clothes for perfectly and are for the right seasons :)
  • Just like last time I'll put them in one of those space saver vaccum bags and store them in the attic.

We aren't sure if we will have another, but I'd like to be prepared just in case. And ftr- I was still in my maternity wardrobe 3 months pp.

  • I am keeping them in case. It is to hard to find ones that fit!! I am 5' so it is hard to find them and when I do it is never cheap!! It is bad I am still wearing my prepregnancy work pants now at 7months because it is to hard to find them.

if after a couple years we decide not to try I will sell them.

This. Most of my stuff is cheap stuff from old navy. I have some pretty work tops that I might be able to sell though.
  • I splurged on some yummy maternity clothes this time around. This is our last. I will try to wear them for as long as I can fashionably get away with it and then sell them.

  • We plan on another baby after this one. Hopefully the next pregancy is within the same seasons as this one.

  • Last time I kept everything that wasn't stretched out, and then loaned things to my SIL when she was pregnant. We are going to just keep passing things back and forth, except if there is anything special that we don't want to share. Kind of a no pressure sort of sharing. And I'll hold onto non-maternity things that I'm wearing as long as they aren't stretched beyond recognition by the time baby comes.

Honestly last time I was sad to put my maternity pants away because get were so comfy. I forgot to zip my pants for months after getting out of maternity jeans.
