Sent home with back to back contractions

I'm almost 31 weeks and preggo with twins. Went in to get checked due to back to back contractions. The contractions were confirmed and coming every 4 minutes but my cervix is still thick. I'm home and still contracting and was told to just rest and come back in if the pain gets worse. Fine I guess but I'm wondering if these contractions will end! I'm 4' 10 and not sure how much I can physically take and not sure how fast a cervix can thin out! I don't want to run in every day to get sent home. Maybe I'll wait for my water to just break...

Re: Sent home with back to back contractions

  • I had non productive contractions with DS2 for over a week. The did end up giving me mess so I could get some sleep.

  • I should have thought of asking for some sleep meds. I'm in Norway and Europeans are VERY different when it comes to prescribing any medication. I pray the contractions just stop so I can reach 37 weeks peacefully.
  • I went in 3 days ago for the same thing (although my contracts were 10-20 min apart) with twins. They gave me a shot of something to make the contractions stop even though I was negative for fetal fibronectin and my cervix was thick, hard, and high. Thank goodness because I would have never slept they were so uncomfortable. Maybe call your OB and ask for something to make them stop.

  • I went in today for regular contractions with cramping, loose stools, vaginal pressure.. I was told bed rest for 3 days, benedryl(I forget why) and cramp bark tincture, eat well and drink a lot. My cervix was soft, and babies heAd was low.. Bed rest it is, and hoping to stop this from goin any further. Just stay in touch with your doc. And lay down: )
  • Thank you ladies for the great advice! I slept a few hours last night is I got some rest. Best of luck to you all as well!

I'm nearly 32 wks (or 36 if based on last menstrual cycle) However I'm Very irregular -sometimes only 3 periods in a yr. so hard telling. Since yesterday morn I've had nonstop lower ab cramping, ending with very sharp cramps an hr before I managed sleep. I just called in to talk to an Ob/Gyn who highly recommended I go to the hosp to get my cervix checked, get urine sample for infection and to find out whether I'm having contractions; however my hosp is hr + 1/2 away so next best would be bed rest, or if that's not an option (so far it's helping!) to the closest ER for a triage assessment where they may try to postpone labor or inject steroids to help develop baby's lungs. So far I believe I'm having Braxton hicks contractions because couching helps altho doesn't completely alleviate the cramp pain + baby hasn't dropped yet so I should have plenty of time still to go. Hope this helps + best of luck!
  • With my 2nd baby, I believe I was about 31 or 32 weeks and was having contractions every 2 minutes! They were even showing up on the monitor but since they weren't making any changes to my cervix they sent me home. They did stop and I actually had to be induced at 40 weeks 1 day (high blood pressure). Hope you're feeling better!
