How has your LO's Sleep Changed Lately?

We've all heard of the fabled '4 Month Sleep Regression' but just curious if and how your LO's sleep habits have changed lately?

My LO was going straight to sleep without fussing or waking up and sleeping 9 to 10 hours straight from 12 to 18 weeks.  After 9-10 hours she would wake, eat, maybe cuddle for 45min followed by another 2 hours of sleep and then we would start the day.

The last 2 weeks she suddenly wakes up crying shortly after falling asleep (regardless of whether she falls asleep on her own in crib, or in my arms after eating) and how long she sleeps before waking up crying varies too (sometimes she wakes up only 15min after being put down, sometimes 45min).  Her first long sleep has gotten shorter too, down to under 8 hours and all of her subsequent sleeps are shorter so she is sleeping less in total each night.

Each time she wakes she seems hungry and takes down 5oz, so is this a growth spurt or the start of a bad sleep habit?  Is there anything I can do or do I just ride it out??

ps - I know her sleeping almost 8 hours is still great, I just got very spoiled and now I can't fall asleep after her first feed around 3 am :(

pps - I have tried to follow the other basic sleep suggestions: No nap 2 hours before bed, consistent and early (7p) bed time, making sure she gets sufficient naps during the day and isn't overtired.  Not sure if I'm missing anything though?

  • DS is still swaddled and rocked to sleep after a bottle. He wakes anywhere from 1-4 times a night. My pedi said because his reflux is bad I can't do any sleep training until 6 months or so because he will spit up and burn his throat now. He won't sleep unswaddled and we've done everything except the magic merlin suit. Your DD is an amazing sleeper and I'm super jealous. I desperately want an easy, well sleeping baby.

  • Still so tired 4 months in I can't see straight. Now DS goes down at 7 wakes between 11-1 to eat and then wakes up between 330 and 430 and wants to be up for the day. It's torture. And he's a bad napper.
  • DS started STTN 2 weeks ago. 7pm-7am.  He eats shortly after he wakes up and is awake until about 8:30am and will sleep anywhere from 1hr-3hrs.  Naps are touch and go, but I don't worry too much about them because DS is happy and he sleeps well at night time.  We haven't experienced a regression yet.

  • In the past 3 wks we went from 7-8 hr stretches to waking up every 2 hrs to be soothed (not fed). He is now up at 5-5:30 instead of 6:30. It sucks. But in the past mo we have also transitioned from the RnP to the crib and the real doozy- took the swaddle away.

  • Before three months he was up one to three times a night. Three months hit and it was a steady downward spiral. Three to six times, then every two hours, then every hour, then no naps, etc. For six weeks. Now we are slllowwwly getting better. Not every night, but on average trending back up. I can usually count on at least one two hour chunk a night, lol.

  • DS was STTN from 11 wks until last week. He slowly started to not want to be swaddled so that may have something to do with it. His waking has just become more frequent, about every two hrs to eat or be soothed, and the last two nights there were chunks of time where he was up every hr. The worst part is that he will fuss until I lay him in bed with me (not that I'm complaining, I love my cuddle time) and it's difficult for either of us to get a good night's sleep. Idk what to do anymore! He did wake up almost an hr ago, an hr after he went to bed, and I didn't pick him up! I just let him lay down and I put my face to his and shushed him till he was drowsy. I hope this all goes away soon!
