Re: Nov. Twins Check In 8/25

  • We had our co-ed baby shower/bbq this weekend and, not going to lie, I was sort of dreading it because of social anxiety and there being a lot of people I didn't know that well there (people from DH's work). I'm happy to say I was totally not awkward at all! I'm utterly amazed at how babies give people something to talk about.

DH ended up opening all the presents because it was hard for me to bend down and unwrap them (and there was no room in my lap). We received a lot of practical items, but it was the cute little clothes that got me excited. It was like, "Oh my god, there are going to be tiny humans in these!"

In other news: I bought my first nursing bra on Friday (the underwire in my regular bra was causing problems) as well as my FIRST pair of maternity pants (I've been living in dresses and skirts). I figured I'd need something when the weather starts to change.

Oh, and I fed my first baby on Friday night. Our friends came over to set up for the shower, one of which has a five month old. It was awkward and DH was trying to show me how to do it, but it was a first.

As for an AW, I'm attaching a pic of the diaper trike my cousin made for the shower. I thought it was neat.

What are you looking forward to most about having twins?
Seeing them interact with one another. I grew up as an only child (my sister -- technically half sister -- is 20 years older), so I never really had a bond with a sibling close in age. I'm glad our twins will get to experience that.

  • @absolutelymaybe‌, I'm glad you were able to enjoy your co-ed baby shower! I couldn't wait to go home and sort everything out:) the diaper trike is adorable!

How are you feeling? Any fun stories to share? Any US/nurseries/clothes/ pics you want to AW? Appointment updates?

I had my three hour glucose test today.( had to cancel last weeks) I had to take my 21/2 year old with me, which I was worried about but he was so so good!! I just have a feeling I'm going to fail it, I guess we will see.

What are you looking forward to most about having twins?

I hear so many people say how very close they will be, it will be exciting to see the close bond they will have. I also am excited about dressing them in coordinating outfit, every now and then.

@absolutelymaybe Yay! Glad to hear the shower went well :) Love the diaper trike! I need to invest in some nursing bras too. I hate bra shopping, so that should be interesting.

AFM- I had my GD test last week. I'm still getting morning sickness, so it wasn't much fun. I had a tough time getting the drink down, and felt pretty crappy after for the rest of the day. Thankfully it's done & I passed! One less thing to think about.

Babies' nursery is 99% ready to go. Car seats & stroller are here too. Maybe a little early, but it feels good to be all set.

    ETA (hit save too early)-
QOTW: I realize this thought could change someday, but for now I'm looking forward to having the complete family that we've wanted for so long. I don't see us doing IVF again, and I'm at peace w/ the thought of our twins completing our family. Like I said - maybe this will change one day, but ATM I'm so relieved to put the infertility struggle behind us & enjoy these little miracles.

It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!

  • @absolutelymaybe glad you had a great shower!! Pretty impressive you are just getting into those bras now. I've been in them and mat pants for awhile now.

How are you feeling? Any fun stories to share? Any US/nurseries/clothes/ pics you want to AW? Appointment updates?
I think I hit a wall this week. Really tired and in pain. Both babies flipped breech which is so much more uncomfortable. Also had my first bought of constipation. Which is thankfully resolved now. On the most part though I've been feeling pretty decent. The kicks have made me feel better. Now I don't assume the worst every time something changes.

Can't believe my shower is this weekend. Seemed way too soon at the time she picked the date But now I'm SO glad it's early. Can't wait to have it over order anything else we need and get ready woohoo!
My family who was staying with me left this weekend and before they did they moved all the furniture around so now the nursery is empty awaiting their furniture. Gonna be fun!

    ...and a random GTKY question...

What are you looking forward to most about having twins?
I'm excited to see them grow together and have the close sibling relationship I never had. God I hope they like each other haha. Not gonna lie I've bought a couple cute 2t outfits.
  • @amberej - FX'd for your 3hour glucose test.

@mrsc430 - Congrats on passing your test and having accomplished so much! I think it's great to be prepared early, especially when it comes to multiples. We don't have our car seats or our stroller yet (I'm less worried about the stroller since I don't think I'm going to be taking them anywhere when they're first born and we don't really live in an area that's conducive to walking, but def. need the car seats!).

@erinwithtwins - Have fun at your shower this weekend! My twins have been breach the entire time, so I don't really know how they would feel in a different position. All I know is I primarily get kicks to the cervix or the butt. Those are sooooo fun. lol.

I am extremely tired and just uncomfortable. I had an appt last week and due to bh I was checked and found to be a fingertip dilated and had softened slightly, so he is talking about pulling me out of work depending on my next appointment.

I look forward to them always having a friend their age.

I wouldn't be as nervous about being pulled out of work if it wasn't for the fact that I am at a new job with no sick leave built up. Pregnancy is considered a preexisting condition so it will not be covered by disability and DH is only working part time. If I get pulled out then DH will probably have to get a 2nd job, which will be very difficult because his schedule is random until he goes full time.

  • @morrkim - I hope for your sake you don't get pulled out quite yet either!  That would be stressful.

@mrsC340 I am impressed you are already so prepared!

@amberej I'm not going to lie - My mother-in-law and I pretty much only buy 2 of the same outfits.  My husband is a twin and she dressed them alike for a long time.  :)

This past weekend was tough - I was having a lot of pain in my pelvis and it hurt every time I tried to move or roll over.  I was going to call the doctor this morning, but it is so much better now and people at work were commenting that I looked bigger just after 2 days, so I think the babies were doing some serious growing this weekend.  I also think one of the babies flipped and is now head down, which may have been contributing.

I did my 1 hour glucose test this past Saturday, but the doctor didn't give me a call today.  If I don't hear something by the end of tomorrow I will give them a call.

My baby shower is in 3 weeks and I can't wait!  :)

QOTW:  I can't wait to see them interact with each other and just be little buddies.

  • How are you feeling? Any fun stories to share? Any US/nurseries/clothes/ pics you want to AW? Appointment updates?
I had an unexpected OB appointment today. I started having mild Braxton Hicks last night that turned into abdominal aches and pelvic pressure this morning. DH convinced me to make an appointment with the doctor for peace of mind. So I went in and they checked heartbeats and did a cervical check. The babies hearts were thumping away and it's Fort Knox down there. I was told to increase my daily water intake (I thought I was already drinking a ton but I guess not enough!) and start wearing a belly brace.

I've started washing and putting away things for the babies. Most everything is from DS so just making it fresh and "new" for these little guys. It's amazing how clean the car seats (borrowing one from my SIL) get after a good wash (lol)! I did a wash cycle that included socks and it was amazing seeing those teeny, tiny socks again! :)

...and a random GTKY question... What are you looking forward to most about having twins?
Not only the relationship they'll have with each other but with DS, as well. There will be less than a two-year difference in age so I'm hoping all three will be close growing up.

Feeling great but the random shortness of breath can be a bit annoying especially when I sit down to start my day at work and I cant breathe neither can I lay down. It wears off tho after 15-20 minutes.  I felt a major movement over the weekend so I'm hoping both twins are head down.  Last time we checked the moved from being both transverse to one head down and the other transverse. We shall see as I have a follow up appointment on Friday!

My shower is going to be next weekend woohoo! (Sept. 6th) and I can't wait to find out what I will be having...getting closer! I went to my brother's girlfriend's baby shower and it started at 2 hours and a half late. I'm  praying everyone be on time and I have asked them to stress this to the guest when they rsvp.  I posted the invite last time but I was so very late that I'm not sure everyone saw it so I added it again.

@absolutelymaybe I'm glad you enjoyed your shower that was an awesome trike @erinwithtwins hope your shower is absolutely fantastic!

    ...and a random GTKY question...

What are you looking forward to most about having twins?

I am most looking forward to them growing together and being friends.  I'm hoping they won't have to go through so much peer pressure if they are a united front.  Our DS is gonna be 1 year next month so he will be close in age to play with them and will be a great big brother.

  • @missvolvo - That is so neat that your husband is a twin! Is he a fraternal or ID?

@MsMolly520 - Glad everything checked out okay w/ your doctor!

@tiersa_smith - I'm so glad you mentioned something about having difficulty breathing. I almost called the doctor this morning because mine is getting more frequent. It's usually when I'm at work and I think it has to do with the way I'm sitting (posture). Anyway, I googled it and it seems to be a normal thing -- especially with multiples. I don't have any of the symptoms of something more serious. So, yeah, it's just kind of annoying.

Carpal tunnel is still here but that's the worst thing at the moment.  This week is my last week at work due in part to that and although I'll miss the girls I work with, I'm happy to be done soon.  I'm excited to be in the home stretch and to start getting ready for these babies!  We had an U/S today and both are head down, with Miles weighing in at 2lb 15oz and Sadie at 2lb 7oz.  The tech could see that they have hair, and their faces are filling out and not so scary skeleton like! I have an appointment with my OB on Friday, after which I'll start seeing her twice a month.

    ...and a random GTKY question...

What are you looking forward to most about having twins?

Sounds funny but that there will be a baby for each my husband and I!  He's so excited that I think if I had one baby I would never get to hold it haha.  I'm also looking forward to the fact that they will have an instant friend for life, my twin friends tell me all the time how much they love being a twin so I hope the same rings true for these two.

  • @absolutelymaybe That diaper trike is adorable!
How are you feeling? Any fun stories to share? Any US/nurseries/clothes/ pics you want to AW? Appointment updates?Feeling good still! Some tossing and turning when I sleep, but I am still managing to sleep so I consider it a victory. Passed my 1-hr glucose test! :) So glad. Been enjoying my ice cream lately and not ready to give it up. ;) What are you looking forward to most about having twins?I'm happy to have three kids. I always wished my brother and I had another sibling growing up and since we got married later (It's our 3rd anniversary today) I didn't think I would have time (I'm 40) to have more than two kids. I worry a lot about DD feeling left out. Especially if the twins end up being two girls. But I am sure it will all work out.

  • @ktibbits1 - sorry to hear about the carpel tunnel. Yay about your ultrasound though! I love that they could see the babies' hair!

@CPM13 - Glad you are still feeling pretty good and at least getting some sleep. Congrats on passing your 1 hour test!

  • tiersa_smith for helping me out!).  I wanted to wait until after my appt. on Tuesday to update.  Everyone looks good (both girls and me!).  I had my GD test today (bleh!) but know it had to happen.  I only did the one hour with my first pregnancy so I was worried about how I would feel during the test.

I have most of the girls' clothes washed and put away now.  That was my project for last week.  DS was born six weeks early with no explanation, so I am trying to get as many things ready as early as I can just in case.  I am hoping that Murphy's Law will mean that since I am completely "prepared" that the girls will stay put for a while.

DS turns three this Friday!  I cannot believe it!  We are having a party this weekend and I hope it goes off without a hitch.  Poor kid is firmly in the threes now with his behavior.  I fall into bed each night out of pure exhaustion due to the pregnancy but also due to dealing with the emotional roller coaster that is a three year old.  Woof.

I'm curious as to whether anyone else is having belly button pain.  I know that sounds super weird but my girls are both so low and they seem to like to push out right around my belly button.  It hurts!  I am also waking up every morning feeling like I did 1000 sit-ups.  Ouch!

Also, is anyone else working out regularly?  I am still trying to do six days a week but I am finding my body is really telling me to STOP IT.  Ha!  I have gone from 40-60 minutes of working out a day to barely 20-30 a day.  Just wondering if anyone else has any maternity/pregnancy workout video suggestions?

What I am looking forward to most about having twins is just seeing how they interact, how they are similar and how they are different.  I cannot wait to see how DS handles their arrival and I am excited/terrified about having three(!!!) kids to take care of.  I just think they will be so cute to dress and to watch grow up together.

  • @lisalynnmama - I used to run almost daily but stopped right before my BFP (due to fertility treatments)...then was so sick and tired for the first 20 weeks or so working out was the last thing I wanted to do. And now I'm just too damn uncomfortable.

But kudos to you for keeping it up! I can't wait to start after babies come!

  • @lisalynnmama I have also slowed down a bit. I used to swim a couple days a week for 40 minutes but now am doing 20-30 minutes. And it exhausts me! Similar with walking. Prenatal yoga has been going well though! Although I think I spend more time in child's pose than I did a few weeks ago. ;) Do you have any classes near you?

This pregnancy has made working out a lot harder than my other pregnancy. Hang in there! And good for you for keeping it up!

  • Working out 6 days a week? Nice! I'm impressed!

I do pilates once a week and try to walk a few others. But the last couple of weeks it's mostly been walking to the bathroom from my bed. Since they both flipped breech I'm SO much more uncomfortable.
