TTC After a Loss

Luteal Phase After Loss

So i'm a little concerned ever since hearing that the second phase of your cycle can get messed up, as in it can shorten resulting from low progesterone once you've had a miscarriage. I am currently 10dpo (Not in 2 week wait since we never tried) but do i have reason to worry or am i just being silly? For me it has always been a good length-About 13 days so i really hope this hasn't changed. This is also my very first cycle post loss

Re: Luteal Phase After Loss

  • My LP stayed the same also.

A common saying on the boards is "don't borrow trouble" - which is what you are doing right now. You are already at 10dpo. Hang in there another few days and see when AF shows.

  • I am not sure that it is common for LPs to shorten after a miscarriage. Ovulation seems to change for many people after a loss, but I will say my LP the past 2 months has been short. However, the 2 cycles before that it was more or less normal length. There is really not enough data (cycles) to say whether this for me was a fluke (stress perhaps) or if it is something to actually be concerned with. I would give your body a few months to even out. Having a miscarriage really messes with your system.

  • My LP on the cycle before my loss was 11 days. First cycle after my loss it was 12. I think you shouldn't worry at all.

  • My lp did shorten after my first loss, going from 11 days to about 9, but seems to be back to 11 now. A 10 day lp is not really short, so if you're at 10 days and your period hasn't come yet, sounds like you don't have this to worry about it.

I'm not really sure why you're worrying before it's even happened yet?

First, an LP of 10 or more days is perfectly fine.  Unless you get your period today, you don't even have a short LP this cycle.

Second, a shorter LP is only a concern if it happens consistently over many cycles.  One random shorter LP is not at all a cause for concern.

Third, it is in fact common to have wonky cycles for a while after a loss, this can include shorter or longer overall cycles, shorter or longer LPs, weird spotting, cramping, ovulating at a different time, etc.  Our bodies need time to heal and figure themselves out after any kind of trauma, so try not to read too much into anything this soon after your loss and allow your body the time to do what it needs to so as to get itself back in order, while realizing that your body may indeed find a new 'normal'.

  • Ok thank you for making me feel more at ease, i guess i was being paranoid. I am the type to jump the gun and im such a worrier, always like "what if this, what if that". Even when i have no reason to. And ofcourse here i am at 12dpo and still no AF so i've obviously been worrying over nothing!
