Noisy newborn sleep

I know it's normal. But how long does this stage last?! LO is so loud and I wake at every peep she makes. It's resulting in very little sleep for me but she's only 2 weeks old so I don't feel right about moving her to her own room yet. It's the worst in her bassinet. The second I pick her up most of the noises stop.

Re: Noisy newborn sleep

  • Ds was the same. Noisy in his bed. Quiet in my arms. We moved him at 8 weeks and we all sleep better. As much as I was hesitant it worked out really well and there was no transition.

  • She's definitely getting moved to her own room sooner rather than later. Going to try to hold out a few more weeks but it's ridiculous how loud this tiny little person can be! Did the noises wake you up on the monitor once you moved LO to their own room?

  • DS is noisy when he's sleeping on his own in the co-sleeper. But since we bedshare when he isn't napping, honestly I've not had him be noisy when he's down for the night. I sleep light when we go down, but the only thing I wake up for is when he starts making rooting noises (9 times out of 10, his eyes aren't even open at that point either). Rooting, I can deal with.

And after a break to take a nap with him. He actually didn't make a peep or move when he slept against me in bed. But putting him in the bassinet so I could finish this, he kept moving and grunting.

  • My DS is noisy as well, he likes to grunt and stretch a lot. I swaddle him really tight and that helps with his grunting/groaning that he does when he stretches. This past week though I started having him sleep in bed with me and now he is absolutely quiet until it is time for him to eat.

I wouldn't be comfortable placing him in his own room at this point. I don't plan on moving him until he is at least 4 months old, so having him sleep in the bed is the best solution for us. We all get great sleep and DS is still in our room.

Do you play white noise? I think it helps DD and us sleep. It covers up some of the light noises.

  • LO is now 10 weeks I'm not sure when all the noise stopped exactly but it's been at least 2 weeks. So glad it's over!
  • We all cosleep here! (we have a 3 yo and a 7week old) I've definitely noticed the baby (and i) sleep much sounder when we're snuggled up..

During nap time/quiet though.. The both of them are so loud. Ds1 snores like a truck driver and ds2 wiggles and grunts,.

  • Maybe something is wrong with her. babies have different cries for different reasons. you should watch some videos on how to know what your baby cries mean
  • My girl grunted loudly while sleeping when she was a newborn. We had her in a bassinet and we needed sleep so badly that we just wheeled her little bassinet to just outside our bedroom door. I soon noticed that when I would get up early in the morning and let her sleep on my chest on the couch she was quiet. I would definitely have to concur with the moms who said that being close to baby while they sleep quiets them. We are planning to side car our crib and co-sleep with baby 2. That way you get the benefits of co-sleeping without actually sharing your bed!
  • I have a squeaker too. We moved him to his room around 4weeks because I was waking up all the time too. I just turned the volume on the monitor all the way up. Everyone slept better. Since then I've started turning the volume back down a bit.

  • DS will randomly scream while sleeping, it scared the crap out of me at first, but when it happens his eyes are closed and he's fast asleep.  Apparently some babies cry/scream in between sleep phases.  DS is 10 weeks and still doing it.

  • I'm a light sleeper, so there are times when I need to sleep on the couch. My partner can sleep through dd's grunts and movement. He brings her to me when it's time to eat.
