What does the hospital provide?

I am a FTM and will be having my baby at Winnie Palmer hospital in Orlando Fl. I was wondering what the hospital provides for me and baby to use and to bring home, can anyone shed some light on this?

Re: What does the hospital provide?

  • Check their website, my hospital had a list of things they provided and a "recommended hospital bag" list.

This. My hospital had the same things on their website.

Here OP, this took me 15 seconds to find:

  • The nurse guiding our hospital tour also provided more in-depth information than the hospital's website did, so if you can take a tour in addition to just looking at the website, I would suggest it. For example, she was able to tell us that the bath towels are super tiny and thin, so we are definitely bringing our own even though the hospital technically provides them.

    Thanks, this is good advice.

  • Absolutely call and ask, or since your doctor has privileges there, he or she would probably know.

My hospital provided pretty much everything I needed: diapers, dry wipes, formula for supplementing, chucks, ice packs and pads, etc.

Lots of hospitals are really pushing breastfeeding and have stopped providing pacifiers but they don't stop you from bringing one from home.

  • Even better advice would be don't buy baby towels at all. The majority of them are really thin. I ended up using our regular plush towels. This time my mom is going to add a face cloth to one corner of a regular towel to make a hood. My idea. I'm amazing.
I like your idea, but I was actually referring to the towels that will be provided for me (and my husband if he decides to use one)! ;)
  • Definitely bring your own towel for the shower!  My hospital's towels were like the size of hand towels.  It doesn't hurt to have a towel on hand.  I also brought my own shampoo/soap and a hair dryer (I hate having wet hair).  It is nice to have nice stuff on hand for your first shower after the baby.

    my hospital provided for me:
    - mesh undies and the mondo pads
    - tucks/epi foam
    - epi bottle
     - medications
    - crappy pillows and blankets
    - towels that were like the size of hand towels.
    - a not very comfortable fold out chair and a crappy pillow/blankets for DH to sleep

    they provided for the baby:
    - shirts
    - blankets
    - diapers/wipes
    - hats
    - pretty much the essentials.

    Good luck!

  • I called the hospital and scheduled a tour. They will tell me everything at that time, so I can prepare my list.
