If your kid has tubes

Can they do the surgery if LO has an active infection or just had one? Is there a time frame they have to be off antibiotics beforehand? I am going to DS hearing test tomorrow so I will ask them then and let them know he is on antibiotics. Just looking for experiences in the meantime.

He is scheduled for next Wed and on Sat I had to take him to urgent care and sure enough he has an infection. His antibiotic will actually be done two days before the surgery, but I'm worried about what will happen if the infection doesn't clear up- it has taken two rounds of antibiotics at times in the past.

TIA

Re: If your kid has tubes

  • Thanks so much! I was kind of wondering how they'd ever get tubes in of the kid keeps getting infections!

DS does have asthma so I'm just trying to keep it from traveling to his chest. His breathing is fine right now and I have a nebulizer. And no fever since Friday night! Fingers crossed!

  • We happen to luck out with no infections at the time of surgery.  They basically told me they'd do the surgery whether or not he had one.  We had no infections while the tubes were in, but they have fallen out.  Since then, he has had one confirmed infection, I suspect there was at least one more. But now that he's older, I'm having a harder time figuring out when there's an infection vs toddler whining.
