So I just did a search for 'diaper pail' on this board (trying to figure out what to get) and read some older posts about how having an open pail is better. Whaaa?! Help me wrap my head around this...
Are we really saying that an open trash can (no lid) is the best way to keep smells down? How can that be? Wouldn't it just make the whole room/house smell? Do the diapers have to be sprayed all the way clean first or something?
I read an article back a while ago that recommended a trash can with a good seal and a locking lid. So which is better? I was originally thinking I'd go with this one..

Re: Open pail?! .. um... fer real?!
Take shoes for example. If you have a pair of shoes that breathes, they probably don't smell nearly as bad as a pair of shoes that is made of some waterproof synthetic material that doesn't breathe. I don't remember enough chemistry to be able to explain why this is. But hopefully you can relate.
We use a Simplehuman locking step can with kissaluvs pail liners. The lock was good for keeping my toddler out of it, until recently. Still, it gets plenty of airflow.
A hanging wet bag is also a good option if your space allows.
