We've got some newbies - Welcome to everyone - we are glad you've joined us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are a group of women striving to live healthier lives, whether that means losing weight, gaining weight, sticking to a specific diet, counting calories, avoiding counting calories, starting to exercise, continuing to exercise or anything in between.
We check in on Mondays and follow up with an accountability on Fridays (our favorite post of the week, because we love encouraging each other and celebrating all our successes!).
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Many of us are using MyFitnessPal to keep track of our eating and our exercise. MFP is a great tool to keep yourself accountable, and because it is set up as a social network site, we can cheer you on there as well as here. If you are using MFP and have not found us yet, let us know so we can friend you!
Re: ****Healthy Living Check-In****
  • Hi all! Sorry for not checking in last week. Thanks for the check-in @MrsG80inTN‌ !
    The good: I thoroughly relaxed and had fun with my friend on vacation last week! We tried to get in a minimum of 10, 000 steps in everyday and most days we far surpassed that.
    The bad: I drank everyday so I put some weight back on.
    The proud: Even though I drank a lot because I tried to make smart decisions when I ate I didn't gain back too much.
    The plan: I want to get back on track. I plan on starting back on my c25k app today.
    Qotw: I'm trying to be less lazy and get up to do things that could take one trip and make it more trips. I.E.: Throw spoon in the sink, go back and get my plate, etc...
  • Hi everyone. I'm new here, but would like to join you all if you'll have me. I'm "Froghemoth" on MFP, and would be happy to connect with people there as well :)
    It's probably best if I give you a little bit of background on my story. When I met my now hubby in 2005 I was pretty happy with my weight. Of course I felt like I should still lose more, but then again I was pretty obsessed with being skinny in those days. Within 6 years I gained 67 pounds (that number still shocks me). I was exercising all the time and counting calories religiously, and I was super frustrated that I either gained weight all the time or maintained. Then last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (autoimmune thyroid disease). If you're not familiar with that, basically it means that my immune system attacks my thyroid, and I have periods of time when my thyroid is overactive, and periods of time when it's underactive. But most of the time it's very underactive. Once I started medication and started getting my thyroid under control, I finally began to lose weight. There is hope for me after all!
    The Good: Went for a couple of short walks with my hubby trying to get back into the swing of things. It's been awhile since I've been able to do anything physical, so it felt good to get outside and get some fresh air. Trying to take it easy and not overdo it.
    The Bad: Went out to eat on Saturday night with some friends and ate a butt-load of pasta and ice cream :(
    The Proud: The scale actually showed that my weight was down for the week, even though I let myself indulge more than I should have.
    Your Plan: I'm putting together my shopping list today, and my goal is to make healthy meals all week. Today is also day 1 of no soda and cutting out refined sugars. It will probably be a tough week, but I know I can do it.
    Question of the week --- What do you do throughout the day to add small activity into your day? I'm taking the stairs at work rather than the elevator. My hubby and I work together, so at lunchtime, we've been taking 15 minute walks.
  • @smagglebit‌ welcome to the check-in!I also have thyroid issues (under active). However yours seems much more severe. I'm glad you are finally able to get it under control. I will look for you on MFP I use the same login name.
  • Hi ladies!
    @stinybean‌ I'm glad you had a good vacation!
    @smagglebit‌ welcome! I'm another under active thyroid lady
    The good: I stepped on the scale Sunday morning and I haven't gained weight. Which seems bonkers but I'm going to choose to believe the number
    The bad: I have not worked out in 3 weeks
    The plan: workout today and aim for 3 workouts this week (2ww so of course AL brain is on over drive) I also have decent meals planned for dinner and am back to milk and cereal for breakfast
    The proud: hmmm. Last week mh told me my arms looked good! See "the bad" for why I was excited about this
    PgAL welcome
  • The Good: Somehow over the weekend I regained my joy of cooking. I lost it sometime around my first loss. This is very very good for health reasons!
    The Bad:  I'm still dealing with snacking issues, but I think it's getting better. Also I did not manage to get any exercising in over the weekend.
    The Proud: Down 2.5 lbs since last weekend! I don't know what I'm doing, but I guess I'm doing it right!
    The Plan: Well, with the cooking thing straightened out I've definitely got some healthier meals in the works.  And it probably wont happen this week, but we are planning to get a bike trainer stand for our bikes so we can use them inside.
    What do you do throughout the day to add small activity into your day? I use stairs whenever possible.  I also probably exert more energy than I need to when I'm cleaning the house.
  • Hi ladies!  Hope everyone had a great weekend!
    @stinybean Welcome back from vacation, glad you got in some good R&R with your friend!
    @smagglebit Welcome to the check-in!  Your thyroid story reminds me of myself, I too was at a healthy weight when I met my husband in 2003 and over the last 11 years I have gained about 60 lbs, despite working out and eating, for the most part, healthy, but every time I have had my thyroid checked it comes back normal.  :-??
    @Km380 The Buns & Guns challenge must have worked!  I love getting compliments from DH.
    @mrandmrsk91011 Yea for clothes fitting better!
    @Menrandes  Glad you regained your love for cooking.  It makes a lot of difference!
    THE GOOD:  I was able to get my long training run in on Saturday, despite the high humidity.  I wasn't motivated for the run, but I'm so glad I did it.
    THE BAD:  The last couple of weeks have been really bad for me in terms of working out and eating.  Not surprising that the scale is not budging, but it's really depressing.
    THE PROUD:  DH and I went grocery shopping yesterday and actually ate dinner at home last night.
    THE PLAN:  Get back into the swing of things with my workouts during the week and eat home more often.  We have plans to eat out Wednesday and Thursday because it is not feasible on those days to eat at home due to our schedules, but we planned out meals for the other nights.
  • @stinybean – No problem at all about lasat week.  I’m so glad you had fun on vacation.  Great job on getting steps in.
    @smagglebit – Welcome!  We’re glad you found us.  My screenname on MFP is the same as here… If I don’t look you up first, find me J  I’m with you on gaining weight post marriage, though not all of mine was due to my hashimoto’s.  I’m glad you’ve got things under control though!
    @km380 – YAY for not gaining weight despite workouts.  I have a feeling this week will be a good one for you.  What were you doing before for breakfast instead of milk/cereal?  What kind of cereal do you have?  Love the sexy arms J
    @mrandmrsk91011 -  Keep that logging going.  Do you and your husband ever workout together?  I make mine go on walks with me at night (eventhough it’s crazy hot) and it helps me stay off the couch and out of the pantry.
    @menrandes – Down 2.5#?!?!  Rock on lady.  Keep it up.  What all did you cook this weekend?
    @mrskush1014 – You’re doing great with the running.  Keep it up.  Don’t worry about the scale – I’m betting your measurements have changed, you’re just building muscle.
  • As for me:
    The Good: I'm done with week 1 of Insanity - Ouch
    The Bad:  My weight went up over the weekend... I got a little lax with my food. It shouldn't have been that bad, so who knows what's up. Maybe it's also the trigger shot?
    The Proud: I bought a size 6 pair of skinny jeans (red)... YAY!
    Your Plan: I made a great recipe this week (Kung Pao Chicken Zoodles from skinnytaste) It uses Zuchinni noodles which are super fun. Byond that - get my Insanity workouts in every day and try to workout at lunch. I've got a busy week and we have freinds in town this weekend. I'm hoping I can hit my goal of 147.6 soon, but after this weekend and the coming weekend it's not looking so good. LOL
    Question of the week --- (I changed it because in my haste I accidentally posted with the same question from last week --- DUH) Where do you get healthy food inspiration? Mostly skinnytaste.com (LOVE), but also Cooking Light.
    I was eating my buttermilk scones, tbh I'm not sure those are very good for me though. I have a box of SmartStart cereal at my desk. I bought a small container of milk this morning and I keep a bowl and spoon at my desk too. I'm set for healthy breakfast all week. This is a great start!
  • Oh!  A new question!
    Question of the week --- Where do you get healthy food inspiration?
    Probably pinterest. I took to it hard when I had to go gluten free! Thank goodness for pinterest coming at exactly the right time.
    @MrsG80inTN size 6!  Congrats!  And that's amazing on completing the first week of insanity.
    This weekend I made home made meatballs with spaghetti squash from the garden and last night I made faux macaroni and cheese with cauliflower and ham for the macaroni.  It was delicious and comforting but didn't make me feel like I had a rock in my stomach.  I wont pretend it was the same, but for something different it was amazing!
    @MrsKush1014 that's awesome that you weren't feeling the running but you went for it anyway!  I always regret when I don't, but never regret when I do, even when I'm not totally up for it.  Good job!
    @mrandmrsk91011 clothes fitting better is always a good sign!
    @Km380 haha...good job on the sexy arms!
    @smagglebit good luck with the no soda.  It's a big step, but such a good one!
    @stinybean That's great that you had a good vacation, and that you managed to stay active during it too!
    @km380 - I'm so psyched for the skinnytaste cookbook.  WAHOO!  I hear ya on the scones.  I love them, but have them usually as a weekend/breakfast treat.  Breakfast is actually my largest meal of the day though - like 550 calories :-)
    ETA - I triggered Friday... I doubt the shot is messing with me this soon, but I'd like to think it is.
  • @MrsG80inTN It wasn't anything like macaroni.  I just chopped up cauliflower and steamed it for a few minutes, then poured the cheese sauce I made over top and baked it.  It tasted like macaroni and cheese, but the texture was off.  Still good though.    I love zoodles!!  Cauliflower is so versatile too.  I've done the rice, the pizza crust, and the mashed cauliflower.  I like to use the mashed cauliflower with shepherd's pie.
  • Hi Ladies, I'm new to the TTCAL board and would love to participate in these threads.
    The Good: H and I have been going on walks nearly every night
    The Bad: I drank a ton this weekend
    The Proud: I did some meal prep last night. Omelette muffins for breakfasts, cucumber greek salad, and chicken apple sausages.
    Your Plan: Just started tracking on MFP (after canceling my WW subscription when I got my BFP) so I'm hoping to track every day, walk or ride bikes with H at least 3 times a week, and go to the gym twice a week.
    Question of the week -- Where do you get healthy food inspiration? www.inspiralized.com and Pinterest. I'm obsessed with my spiralizer and love making veggie noodles and 'rice'.
  • @MrsG80inTN @Menrandes I love zucchini noodles and have been trying different things with cauliflower too! The rice is okay but I prefer butternut squash 'rice'. I love cauliflower pizza crust. I'm still trying to perfect mashed cauliflower. It's been to water-y every time I've made it; before I mash it next time I'm going to try to drain it in cheesecloth like I did with the pizza crust and I'm hoping the texture will be thicker. Any other good cauliflower ideas? There's a faux mac and cheese recipe on inspiralized.com with zucchini noodles that I've been wanting to try too.
  • @furrypaws - YAY for a fitbit flex.  I love my fitbit.  PM your email (if you're willing) and we can be friends on fitbit and challenge each other.  @momentomori is also on there as well as a few other folks so we can connect you.
  • Hello ladies! I hope you will have me. I think I intro-ed last week on here, but the long and short of it is in my siggy. I am trying to get healthier (Actually have been for a while, but it's easier with support). I am under the same name on MFP.
    The Good: I have been coming in under my calorie goals and actually managed to eat pretty well this past weekend even though I was at the fair.
    The Bad: I have been lax about keeping track of what I eat, and I am in training all this week for school. They have out doughnuts. However I only had 1 mini doughnut (at 10:30 because breakfast was at 6!)
    The Proud: I am finally back down 4 lbs. Doesn't seem like much, but I had lost 15 and then turned around after 3 hot days and they had all come back!!!
    Your Plan: This week, try to eat healthy, balanced meals and walk around the town 3 days. I am also going to try to make it to the Zumba class at the firehall.
    Question of the week --- Where do you get healthy food inspiration? Hmmm tough. From friends, co-workers, and pioneer woman often has some great stuff.
  • @elliecat17 – we are so glad you found us.  Welcome!!!!  4# is awesome!!!!  Sounds like you are doing well.  It’s always hard when you don’t have the ability to get your own foods.  I’m sure you’ll do great though.
    @Amybunny30 – I remember reading something about folks not getting tagged when their names are put in in a certain way… I have to figure out what causes that – lol.
    @BLuvsE – Shake off the brownies from last week (though they do sound good).  I hope this week is better for you.  I’ll have to check out mybodykey.com I’ve never heard of it!
