2nd Trimester Energy

This is my 3rd pregnancy but first with multiples and I am still exhausted at 14 weeks- by this time with each of my single pregnancies I was having a ton more energy.  Did you ladies ever get that energy burst while pregnant with two? I basically put my other two babies in bed and then need to crawl into bed myself.  Ugh

Re: 2nd Trimester Energy

  • The twins were my 2nd pg and no, it never really got better. Sorry. I'm not a puker, but I felt hung over pretty much 24/7 until 16w when the heartburn ramped up. The sheer exhaustion did let up a bit but I pretty much went to bed when my oldest did my entire pg.

  • I wouldn't say I had a burst of energy during the 2nd Tri -- I just didn't constantly feel like I was beyond exhausted. Just semi-exhausted. I never had any ms (which is amazing), but was crushed by fatigue during the first tri. Having never been preggo with a singleton, I really have no idea what the 2nd tri "burst of energy" concept is all about, anyway. ;)

  • I think for a couple weeks around 15-18 weeks I wasn't in bed by 8pm, but I never had a ton of energy. It seems you skip most of second tri and head straight to third with multiples.

  • My exhaustion went away around 15w but prior to that I was going to bed around 7:30-8:00pm, even before my 4 year old. I don't remember being exhausted with my singleton - that pregnancy was fairly asymptomatic.

  • I asked this same question a few weeks ago because like you I was beyond exhausted!  Literally falling asleep in the middle of the day.  At 16 weeks it is easing up a bit.  I still am exhausted after a day of work and pretty much want to do nothing but lie on the couch after work.  I did start drinking half-calf coffee in the morning which I think has also helped.   At 16 weeks the physical part of the pregnancy is starting to get more difficult....sleeping comfortably, backaches, hip pain, and sciatica pain...   From what I have experienced you just trade one symptom for another.   I keep reminding myself this is all temporary!

I can't imagine twin pregnancy with two little ones... you are a rockstar!  Get all the rest you can!

  • Nope, still totally exhausted throughout.  My all-day so-called morning sickness started to subside around 16 weeks, after I'd already lost 10 lbs from it.  Nothing else got better until they broke my water on the operating table.  I remember saying, "You just broke my water, didn't you?  I can breathe!!!"

  • I thought I was going to die of exhaustion until about 13ish weeks. I remember posting here because I felt worthless to my toddler. I am slowly starting to get more tired, but it seems manageable right now. I'm hoping it lasts a little while longer.

I never got that second trimester energy boost. I've always said being pregnant with twins feels like one long third trimester. Probably because I've measured so far ahead the whole time. I went through a few nesting spurts but never really have had a lot of energy. Also, this is my third pregnancy so I definitely know how great the 2nd trimester CAN be. Just not this time around. :P
  • This is my first pregnancy that stuck so nothing to compare to but between the first tri all day sickness and the increasing exhaustion of these later weeks I did have a few pretty good weeks around 16-20 weeks or so. Not sure I'd call it a burst of energy but more than first and third tri at least. I've slowly gone down in energy since then though and at almost 33 weeks I'm glad to be out of my retail job even though I'm sort of running out of things to do at home. I've measured pretty far ahead too so maybe that contributes to the tiredness. Whatever it takes to cook these guys a little longer is worth putting up with is what I keep telling myself.
