convertible/harnessed booster

I need to purchase a car seat for DD1 (almost 4).  She is FF so it can be a convertible or a harnessed high back booster.  We already have 3 Britax harnessed high back boosters for her and 3 Britax convertibles for DD2 (DH's car, My car, and nanny's car).  I need a car seat so my aunt can pick her up from preschool 1 day a week and moving a car seat from one of our cars to her car won't be an option.

So, seeing as its our 7th car seat I'm not excited about spending tons on it.  However, all the cheaper convertibles and harnessed booster only seem to let you harness up to 40 lbs. and she is really close to that.

Any suggestions on a seat that can harness her after 40 lbs. that isn't a fortune?

  • Answered my own question...in case it helps anyone else...

Found the Evenflo Maestro that can harness until 50 lbs. for $79 on amazon.

  • I'm glad you found a seat but in case you happen to need another seat, I think you may have been looking at the rear facing weight for convertibles or the forward facing weight of some less expensive convertibles.  Combination seats, which is what you need for a forward facing child, do not only forward face to 40 pounds.  The one you chose is actually less recommended because of its low harness weight.  It's not a bad seat but your daughter needs to be harness for about 2 more years so if her weight has been climbing in a way that you think she'll reach 50 pounds before then, your money is better spend on another seat like the Harmony Defender, Evenflo Securekid or the Graco Nautilus or Argos.  They all harness to 65 pounds and the Argos actually to 70.

  • @ASmallWonder‌ I was surprised but some of the really cheap ones do seem to max out at 40 lbs which really stinks. No way would DD be ready for a belt in a few pounds!

Our regular car seat for her will let her be harnessed to 70 lbs.

This evenflo only harnesses until 50 lbs. but I should only need it for 3-6 months and I don't think she will gain 13 lbs. in that time so it will do the job for us.

    Thanks for the other recs.
  • We got my FIL a Evenflo Securekid 400 for their car. My MIL (who has the kids the most) has a Britax Frontier for my eldest and and Redian RXT for my son. We didn't feel that FIL needed the Frontier for their needs. They take the kids every other Friday night, but even that is iffy. So we chose the cheaper seat. It's still really nice and has great features for an easy install. All we had to do was put the LATCH connectors on and apply pressure to the seat and it tightens itself. Brainless instal, great for grandparents.
