I wore nursing tanks ( from target) with a light cardigan over it in the hospital. And yoga pants during the day. I know others who just wore the hospital gowns, but I found them to be uncomfortable.
At the beginning, I really needed to see my breast to feed well. I loved the cheap tank tops from target or any low cut shirt that allowed me to pull my breast out of the top. My son is 16 months and still breastfed and I've never quite gotten the hang of pulling my shirt up. Like PP, I'm small chested, which I think makes a difference.
I spent a bit of money on nursing tops and I'm kind of annoyed with myself - they were not supportive at all, and If wore a nursing bra with them you could see the bra sticking out of the top/sides. I love the long/lean tanks from target. You can just pull the straps down to get your breast out and they work well with nursing bras.
