To nap or to not nap?

Just curious how many of you nap, especially those of you like me that have more then one child? I have a almost 3 year old and a 6 week old. Who naps when the kids nap and who does other things like house work or "mommy time" .

With DS 1, I only napped 1 or 2 days a week. With this LO I'm napping 5 or 6 days a week.

DS 2 has generally been sleeping 4 hrs/3hrs/3hrs at night in between nursing and nursing every 2-3 hours during the day. But between DS 1 waking one or two times a night to potty or what not and then getting up with DS 2 I think I'm averaging a total of 5-6 hours a sleep a night.

I'm just curious.

Re: To nap or to not nap?

  • Unfortunately I don't nap much right now because DS is almost 5 and doesn't nap at all. When he starts school I'm hoping to get one in at least every couple of days or so.

  • DS1 is 3 1/2 and no longer naps so I don't nap. I miss it greatly. Even when he starts preschool next week he'll only be there 9-11:30 so I probably won't get any napping in.
  • I don't like napping since it throws me off. Luckily, DD is a good sleeper and I can get 7-8 hours every night.

  • I nap 2-4 times a week.
DS sleeps 10-12 hours a night
DD sleeps a few hours between feedings
With the way my kids sleep I get to sleep in a little bit. So that's when it varies for my to get to nap. Those days both kids sleep during DS' nap time (130-2 to about 4-430) I will try to get a few things done but I get to nap for about an hour to an hour and a half during that time.

  • I try to nap most days, but LO makes it hard. Last week he had a hard time taking afternoon naps,,and I try to pump during his morning nap. He generally sleeps 4-5 hours straight at night, then we feed for 1-1.5 hours, then sleep another 2.5-3 hours. Since I have a hard time getting to sleep I'm not getting as much sleep as he is. I am not one to like naps generally, but I've had to just to survive.

  • I was napping in the beginning.  But, now LO gets 4, 4 hour stretches at night so I don't really have a need.

  • I don't nap, I tried in the beginning but I couldn't get to sleep so I gave up.

  • I don't nap because I always wake up more tired. Most days my DSs nap at the same time, so I have some nice quiet time.
  • I nap every day at least once. Sometimes two or three times. But I have narcolepsy, so I'm always sleep deprived since I lack the neurons that regulate sleep, making most of my sleep non refreshing. Naps are a necessity for me, not a luxury. It's really inconvenient, but I know if I don't nap, I'll have problems functioning.
  • I'll only nap when DH is home. Otherwise I wind up doing laundry, dishes, and emptying all the garbages.

But I don't really feel I need it bc LO is sleeping from 8-6 most nights and I'll usually go to bed at 11, so 7 hours of sleep is basically heavenly.
  • I wish I could nap. For the most part my 2 year old and my 7 week old don't always nap at the same time and if they do I feel like I need to get all the housework done.
  • I have never been a napper even with just one. Now it's almost impossible. DS1 naps once a day for about 1.5 hours. At this point I can't get DS2 down at the same time. Plus he only naps well if I hold him. Other then that he is up usually in 30 minutes once I put him down. So no napping for me.

  • I usually nap at least 5 times a week when little one is taking her naps. It's hard because there's always housework waiting for me too.

  • I wish I could take more naps.  None of my kids sleep.  The older two are probably up at least 2 times at night and the baby uses night-time for cluster feeds.  He will nap some during the day but for only about 30 minutes unless I am holding him.  I have so much to do I just can't get it done if I nap.

  • When I do happen to get them down at the same time, (one year old and a 4 week old) then it just depends on how my night went. If it was shitty then I will def try to nap with them. If it was a decent night and they nap at the same time, then I catch up on housework. Fun, fun, fun!!!

I've been napping most days and you ladies are making me feel like a bum lol. I still get most of my house work done early in the am since DS 1 wakes about 7 and DS 2 sleeps till 8-9 after the late morning feeding or late at night before I go to bed. I feel like I'm wasting valuable time if I nap when they do. Everyone always says "sleep when they do" and I am!

  • I nap almost daily. Sometimes DD1 is just not having nap time, but I still at least try to get her down for one. She's a cranky disaster if she doesn't take one. (She's 3). But I'm returning to work in 3 weeks, so my days of napping are numbered haha
